Percy felt as though he was lost in a dream. The last thing he remembered, he was sprawled out on the lush green grass beside his beloved with not a care in the world. It was probably just a dream, he thought, and he couldn't be anywhere else, right?
But as his vision cleared, he realized he was surrounded by the blindingly bright walls of Apollo's infirmary. He looked down and saw that he was draped in even brighter white sheets, his usual blue jeans and orange CHB t-shirt replaced with a medical gown, and his clothes carelessly thrown over a chair in the corner of the room.
Percy was completely bewildered by his predicament, muttering to himself, "What the...? Why am I in Apollo's infirmary? I wasn't injured or anything. Unless... was I attacked by monsters?"
The thought made his stomach drop as he remembered his recent nap on the hill. 'Stupid!' he mentally berated himself. "You were practically asking the monsters to come and get you, lying there on the grass like that. You should have gone back with Annabeth... Wait... Annabeth!"
Percy's anxiety skyrocketed, his breathing becoming shallow as he placed his trembling head in his hands. "Is she okay!?" he mentally screamed, his worry for his Wise-Girl overwhelming him. He knew that Annabeth was more than capable of taking care of herself, but this was different. She was sleeping, just like him, and she could be seriously injured.
Percy couldn't bear the thought of something happening to her. "If something hurt her..." he closed his eyes, taking deep breaths to calm himself. He couldn't jump to conclusions. She might be fine, awake and berating him for his stupidity.
But she wasn't there, and he was alone, having a silent panic attack.
Percy made his decision and sprang into action, throwing off the bed sheets and rushing to the chair, hastily donning his clothes. He had to check on Annabeth immediately.
-LINE BREAK-
Rushing towards the exit, his shirt haphazardly draped over his torso, Percy Jackson appeared utterly harried.
Darting past a multitude of hospital chambers, Percy Jackson frantically searched for Apollo. ' Apollo has to know where Annabeth is' Percy pondered.
His query was abruptly resolved when he careened headlong into the very God he sought. The collision sent Percy tumbling to the ground, his mind throbbing with pain.
"Oww..." Percy groaned, unyielding to stifle his complaint in the presence of Apollo. He rose to his feet, his hand still cradling his throbbing head, and was met with the apologetic countenance of Apollo.
"Sorry man! I didn't see you there! I guess you were in a...hurry." offered Apollo with a relaxed grin. However, in an instant, his genial expression vanished, and his once luminous complexion turned ashen.
Percy guessed that Apollo finally recognized him.
"O-Oh. It's y-you. How a-are you doing P-Percy?" stammered Apollo, his complexion growing even more pallid with each uttered word.
"Yeah, uh Apollo. Where is Annabeth!?" Percy fired off quickly, his worry for his fiancé mounting. He didn't have the luxury of pondering why Apollo was staring at him in such a manner. On the contrary, the god's reaction only served to exacerbate Percy's already uneasy gut feeling.
Apollo hesitated, his expression now one of confusion, as his previous countenance melted away. "What do you mean Percy? You and Annabeth are-" He abruptly cut himself off, clamping his hand over his mouth to silence any further words.
This only served to heighten Percy's fear. "Apollo! Come on! You have to tell me where Annabeth is!" Percy cried out, desperation lacing his voice. Apollo felt a pang of sympathy for Percy. He was torn from his world, and whatever bond he shared with Annabeth, it was evident that he feared for her safety.
"Listen, Percy. I promise to answer all of your queries as soon as we arrive at the throne room. I have already summoned a meeting. Rest assured, Annabeth is safe, okay?" Apollo reassured him, hoping to alleviate some of Percy's worry. Percy contemplated this for a moment before exhaling a sigh of relief, tears streaming down his face.
"Uh...Percy? You okay?" Apollo inquired, his concern overriding any suspicions he might have harbored about this version of Percy. He looked especially vulnerable in that moment, but who wouldn't be?
For all he knew, this Percy had undergone a great deal more than his own, and his bond with Annabeth helped ground him. It was a trying time to be separated from one's loved ones.
Apollo placed a hand on Percy's shoulder, providing him with much-needed comfort. "C'mon man, you'll be alright. Shall we make our way to the throne room?"
Percy perked up at Apollo's show of kindness. "Yeah...Thanks, man," he replied gratefully, allowing Apollo to guide him down the corridors towards the gods' throne room.
