The sea beats against the shore with a crash, again, and again, and again. The sea beats against the shore and that's all there is to this world, just the sea and the shore. There is no life here, no stars in the heavens, no sun, no moon, only the sea and the shore; and the sea crashes against the shore. The sea and the shore stand with each other, darkness their only other companion; this is our world before creation.
Before the gods there was nothing but the sea and the shore, and it is from these that the first goddess came. As the sea beat against the shore a foam lingered between the two, slowly taking the form of a mare.
The new goddess stepped onto the land as a great oak tree sprung up from the earth. She marveled at the tree with curiosity and from it's bark she fashioned the other gods and goddesses, and they in turn created all the life on the earth.
