Ch. 15 Tag in the Dark

You slowly made your way through the jungle gym you were in and stumbled upon what looked to be a generator. You flipped the switch on it, then the light turned green. 'That's one, four more to go'. You cautiously peered through the netted walls to see if the coast was clear. You could still hear the mechanical sounds, but they weren't that close. Even so, you were still scared out of your mind. Not only that but you were also confused about the situation. 'Why is it that Sundrop was completely normal but his other side is out to get me?! It is also certain that Sundrop was aware of his other side. So he knew that Moon would come after me like this?' You scanned the area once more and the mechanical sound started to fade away. You took this as your opportunity to sneak over to the other play structure.

"Hidey hide. Hide away." You quickly held your breath as you entered the next play structure. You hid behind a wall to gather your bearings. You ventured deeper into the play structure in hopes of finding another generator, and you did! You flipped the switch and continued on. Even though you were being pursued by a murderous animatronic, your brain was going a mile a minute with more and more questions than you knew what to do with.

'So if Sundrop was aware of his alter ego's murderous intentions, does that mean that the staff are aware of this as well? So is it not a bug? It has to be a bug! Why on Earth would anyone program children's entertainment animatronics to be like tha-.' Before you could finish that sentence in your head, you came upon a terrifying realization. The missing children, the murderous animatronics, the nasty rumors. 'N-no way! They can't possibly be connected?!' You put your hand over your mouth and tried desperately to calm your breathing. As if right on cue, the mechanical sounds of Moondrop started to become louder and louder and louder and louder.

"It's past your bedtime..." You quickly turned your body 180° to see the source of those words, Moon. you sprinted out of the play structure as fast as you could, but Moon was gaining on you. You noticed a tower of cylindrical objects in front of you. You knocked them over in hopes that it would slow him down, but you didn't expect him to stop to pick them up. "Rrrrrggh... clean up! Clean up!" You took this as an opportunity to run back into the play structure through a different entrance. These play structures may look fun when the lights are on and the happy music is playing, but in dark total silence, it was a terrifying maze you didn't want to be stuck in. Miraculously, you managed to stumble upon another generator! You eagerly flipped the lever and continued to sneak around the structure. You looked out the netted wall to see if Moon was still cleaning the mess you made, only to find him gone. As you ventured further into the endless twists and turns of the jungle gym, you stumbled upon a bridge. It was a bridge that led to the other jungle gym. The only problem is that there were no walls or ceiling around it, just a bridge out in the open. You could still hear the mechanical noises coming from up above.

'I feel like I've been walking in a circle! I should probably go across this bridge, but if Moon sees me then I'm done for! Maybe I should make a run for it? I'm pretty sure he's too far away to notice.' You remembered that he has really good hearing so you decided you would walk across the bridge slowly, gripping the railing with both hands in hope of making your footsteps as quiet as humanly possible. Being out in the open with the possibility of being seen by the animatronic flying through the air made you feel like a rabbit, trying so desperately not to be noticed by a hungry hawk flying by. Though you couldn't see him, the mechanical sounds got slightly louder. You instinctively ran across the rest of the bridge and stumbled upon yet another generator. Since you had no idea if Moon actually heard you running, you didn't waste any time flipping the lever and continuing to run. Realizing that you could not hear any mechanical noise, you decided to rest against the jungle gym wall. 'Wait, wasn't that the fourth generator?! I just need to find the last one and I'm safe!'

You continued to look through both play structures while somehow evading Moon with a couple of close calls. Thankfully, making a mess seems to distract him long enough for you to get away. But you were not out of the woods yet, you still needed to find that last generator. You swear that you looked through both play structures at least 20 times, but you still couldn't find it! You felt like you were very close to giving up until a miracle happened. There it was out of the corner of your eye. It was in the other play structure. You ran to the nearest entrance in hopes of finding that generator, but you had absolutely no idea how to get to it. 'Why the hell did they have to make this jungle gym so fucking confusing?!' You're surprised that you haven't had to fish out a lost child out of one of the play structures yet as a part of your work. Your thoughts were interrupted by a light thumping sound coming from above, followed by that same familiar mechanical sound that drew so much fear out of you. 'He's above me!' Your eyes slowly landed on a ramp that connected the floor you were on to the floor above you. You could deduce that the sound was coming from that direction. You didn't need any more convincing to run the hell out of there. You ran around that play structure with that mechanical sound following you. You felt like your legs were going to give out with all the running you had to do. Not just then, but you were still recovering from your encounter with Chica, Roxy, and Monty. All you wanted was to break free from the cycle of endlessly running through the maze with so many twists and turns that made your head spin. You kept on running and running and the sound got louder and louder. You kept turning behind you to see if Moon was there, causing you to run into something uncharacteristically hard for something in a children's playground. You fell to the ground and frantically looked up to see Moon was several feet away. You stood up and turned around to see the object that caused your misfortune. It was the last generator! There was no time to waste, Moon was sprinting towards you and you knew what you had to do. You flipped that lever like your life depended on it because it did. And just like that, all the lights came back on.
