Chapter 4: Olivia Roune POV
From a first glance I can see that the room is already dark and smells like body odor. I hold my breath and squeeze the rest of the way in. If I thought the smell before I walked in the room was bad, this is so much worse. It was a mixture of body scents, tears, blood, and bad breath.
I haven't walked two feet yet before I am snatched into some ones arms. Before I can scream out a hand is over my mouth making it hard for me to breathe. I kick out from behind and instantly I am released on the ground, and it wasn't the softest landing in the world either.
I say, "Now I know whoever did that doesn't want to be kicked again so where is Nate?"
Suddenly there is nothing but the sound of three sources of breath flowing around in one spot.
"I won't ask the question again. Nate is in here and so is Johnathan and Calum so someone speak up before I drop-kick the nearest hard surface!"
Without hesitation a hoarse voice breaks the silence by saying, "Olivia wait before you kill the nearest dude you need to know that they have Nate."
Again I feel like the air has been knocked out of me. I ask, "How is he doing. What have they done to him?"
Johnathan or Calum –I can't tell which- says, "He is pretty badly burned all over his back. He can't lay on his back."
Immediately all of my anger flows into my body and across my eyes flashing all different colors of red. I ask, "How long has he been gone?"
One of the boys answers saying, "Probably an hour or two now."
Quickly I lean back out of the flap and tell Logan, "You might want to go back to the cell or climb in because there is now way I'm leaving without seeing Nate."
Logan doesn't ask any questions and soon she is standing right next to me in the dark, smelly cell. Johnathan and Calum explain that Nate was mouthing off to another guard and then they made him their entertainment.
I sigh and think to myself so typical Nate has a quick mouth, but I love him nonetheless. Before I can input a plan or opinion, the bolts on the door are sliding open and then the light is flooding in. Logan and I rush to the corner and squish together as close as possible so we aren't visible. The two shadowy figures shove a mangled figure on the floor who roles into the light so I can see his face.
It's Nate and taking one good look at him, I almost cry. He has be beaten severely, both of his eyes are swollen shut, the burn marks on his back are blooming over the top of his collar line, and he is limping on one foot.
Once the door closes, I rush over to Nate cradling his head in my lap. "Oh Nate, what have you done?"
Nate coughs up blood all over his face and my already bloodied pants. He is taking ragged breaths and just by taking one look at him, I can see that he is really pale.
I lean down and whisper to only Nate "What have they done to you?"
Nate reaches up to touch my face and says "Olivia how did you-."
Before he could finish his eyes rolled to the back of his head and Nate blacked out. All of the feelings that I had been holding in over the past couple of days flooded out of me right there in that disgusting cell.
Logan seems to understand what I am about to do before I do it because right as my mouth opens to scream, she yanks me off the floor into her arms placing her hand over my mouth. I screamed so hard that eventually I went hoarse.
Johnathan and Calum drag Nate into a corner to hide him from my line of vision, though it barely helped. Logan tried to help me leave, but I just passed out from the screaming sometime while I was being shoved through the small door. From that point on it was complete darkness.
~After the blackout~
I awake on the cot with Logan on the floor next to me sound asleep. Looking down at her I can see that she has been crying again, probably about Lawson. When I think that this could be another ordinary day again, I remember what happened last night.
The images of Nate passing out before me flash across my eyes and suddenly I feel light-headed again. Logan wakes up and startles me out of my reverie of nightmares. "Hey, how do you feel?" Logan says.
I look at her and say "I think you know how I feel. Did you see Nate before I passed out?"
She slowly nods and says "Yeah it was pretty bad, but at least you got to see him right?"
Frustrated I say "Not really all he said was 'How did you' and then he passed out."
Nodding again Logan says "Yeah that was...intense. You must really love him."
I feel the tears begin to well up behind my eyes and wipe my hands across my cheeks.
~Later in the day~
The day seems to pass really slowly with just one thing on the mind. All day everything was about Nate. I couldn't stop thinking about his injuries and throughout the day I found a million ways to help with nothing but the hair brush Logan gave me, and the springs in my cot. Nonetheless here I sit in my stupid cell. How can I be of any help to anyone if I'm stuck here! Only one thought surfaces now. If they kill him I'm out for blood.
