After the Calamity: Alone

Link silently fought against the harsh winds of the Hebra Mountains. The soft feathers of his Snowquill outfit set shielded his slender body from the icy cold. His leather gloves dug into the frozen mountainside as he climbed the Hebra North Summit.

His face was red and his teeth were chattering by the time he reached the top. The peak much of Hyrule, from the surrounding snowy mountains to the red hue of the Gerudo Highlands — or it would if it weren't always snowing. Link took a sharp, icy breath at the top as he looked in all directions for something to do, maybe someone to find, or something to kill.

Since he woke up after the Great Calamity, after finding out the Champions had died and that Zelda was trapped in the castle, Link had felt only emptiness. The weight of Hyrule held him down to the point where he slaughters monsters mercilessly and gathers supplies like a robot, trying his hardest not to feel any emotions at all. He knows that if he so much as lets one emotion slip from his mask, he'd be clouded with anger.

As he stood atop the peak, he thought of his life from before. When the only thing on his mind was training to be a soldier. The only problem was if he was swinging his sword the right way.

Everything is different now. He has nothing. No one. The only thing keeping him from giving up is Zelda's voice replaying in the back of his head, Link... You are the light. OUR light... that must shine upon Hyrule once again.

Link adjusted his snow boots and sat on the powdery snow, yawning. Suddenly, something shifted below him. Before he could stand up, the ground beneath him gave in and he fell through.

He struggled and tried to grab the ledge before he fell, but he missed just barely and began plummeting down the hollow mountain.

A sudden pain shot through his back as the wind escaped from his lungs. He laid gasping for air on the ground for only a few seconds before the world around him faded to black.
