It had been a week since the Fenestra disappeared. After that, Link teleported home to rest a bit, but then got back to work. Now, he stood under the tree on Satori Mountain, gathering supplies. The sun was setting behind the Gerudo Highlands, and Link made his way into the pond below.
Wet clothes wasn't a pleasant feeling, but Link had gotten used to it. Pink cherry blossoms floated around him in the water as he plucked endura carrots from the ground.
A Silent Princess flower taunted him from the rocks. However, Link doesn't pick Silent Princesses. Zelda wouldn't be happy if he did, so he doesn't.
Beautiful hues of orange and pink reflected from the sky into the water, and Link squinted his eyes as he glared through the lush branches of the blossoming tree.
Suddenly, he heard a sound behind him. His sword wasn't equipped, so a quick rush of panic flew over him as he watched blue lines come together to form something.
Dammit.
Fully expecting one of the creatures from the cave to pop up, he readied his stance.
However, it wasn't any monster that appeared in front of him. It wasn't a bad omen, a spirit. It wasn't an animal or an unknown creature. It was the girl he loved.
She wore her usual exploring gear as she gained her usual color in front of him. She stood so elegantly in the water. The mixture of colors from the sky made her green eyes shimmer.
Link could hardly breathe.
His lips trembled and his breathing was rapid.
"Princess..." he stuttered.
She laughed. She stood there, her hair flowing in the evening breeze, her soft hands at her sides, her beautiful smile lighting the numbness in Link's heart.
A tear fell down Link's face as he stood there and looked at her emerald eyes.
She took a step towards him and began to speak, "Look at that Silent Princess over there," she motioned to the flower poking from the rocks. "It's beautiful."
Link nodded.
"You know, Link, that flower always reminded me of us." She spoke calmly. "That's why it's my favorite. Link, you're the silent to my princess."
Her words hit Link like a boulder. He wanted to tell her that he loved her. That he would save her. And that she didn't need to worry. But no words escaped his throat.
Zelda got closer, their faces only inches away from each other. She wiped the tear from his face and stared into his eyes.
She leaned in closer, waiting for Link to do the same. For a moment, he stood there, and Zelda knew he wouldn't. She was about to back away, when suddenly Link grabbed her hand with his. With his other hand, he grabbed her back and leaned in.
Zelda did the same.
For a few moment then, Link felt as if the world stopped. The Calamity didn't matter. The citizens of Hyrule didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was her.
They stood there, against the blended colors of the sky, and the soft pink of the flowers, simply holding each other.
However, nothing lasts forever. Link felt Zelda slipping away. Her body turned to blue light, blowing away in the wind.
"Link. You can do it. I'll be waiting for you in the castle. Goodbye now," She whispered as she disappeared.
He was alone again. But he didn't feel that way. He stood silently, gazing at the sky, now sprinkled with stars, and he smiled.
He picked up the Silent Princess poking from the rocks.
Our flower.
