chapter seven~run

Nyla ~

I groaned and rolled over onto my back.
"Get up!"
"No."A hand gripped my shoulder and gently shook me back and forth.
"Up."I yanked away from it's grip."Now,Nyla."I pried open my eyes and turned to look at Shadow. His hair was a mess but his green eyes looked like they were portals to somewhere different.
"What?"I sat up.
"It's dawn and we're on the edge of the city.Let's get moving. "I pulled my
self up.Fuck you,morning person. I grabbed my backpack and headed towards the door then unlocked it. Shadow came up from behind me.
"What? "
"You. "I headed down the old stairs with a huff and placed my foot gingerly on each step.I gasped and clutched onto the railing as one of the steps gave out underneath me.Shadow threw his hand over his mouth and softly chuckled.My foot was on solid ground. I stepped over the last step and made my way to a old living room with peeling flower wallpaper. A brown sofa was in the center of the room. I unsheathed a katana and circled my way around."Damn. "A woman who was maybe in her seventies was now a half rotted zombie. Her legs were cut off and so were her hands. Her jaw was hanging by strips of flesh. She reached out to us and we both took a step back.Shadow pulled a dagger out of his jacket pocket and put her to rest. I continued to the door and eased it open.The streets were deserted except for one or two low class zombies.Shadow pulled me back into the house and shut the door.He leaned close and whispered to me.
"We need to run away from this town until we've closed the main road and are out in the country for about a mile.You understand?"I nodded.
"What's over there? "
"Horses,food, and weapons. "
"Ok."
"As soon as you get out that door you run like a motherfucker!Go! "
I bolted out the door and heard Shadow's footsteps behind me.My breath came and went in time with my steps as I ran around cars and onto the field. Come on! A little more... I darted into the trees and didn't look back until I stumbled into a large clearing.
I looked back and Shadow fell on his face with a yelp.Retard. I sat down and took a canteen out of my backpack.Shadow crawled his way towards me.
"Good job. "I snorted."Like seriously though... we could've died. "
"No shit,Sherlock. "
"Take me seriously for once. "I looked at him.
"Your stupid. I took you seriously when you told me would catch me,I took you seriously when you told me to run.I'm still here aren't I? "He sat up and looked me right in the eyes.
"The horse's stuff are in the other end of this clearing." He got up and so did I.He lead me to the spot .He practically set up a mini camp.A small fire was beside a few blankets and there were two horses,each
of them were loaded down with saddle bags.
"Where did you get all this? "
"Home. "He began placing down more blankets.
"Camp Necessity?"He nodded then smiled at me.
"Our bed."He gestured towards the blanket pile.
"Our? "
"It's gonna get real cold so...I thought we could keep each other warm. Not in any intimate sort of way."His face hot red and he looked at the ground.
"Fine.But I have my side and you have yours."He nodded and took a bow from underneath the blankets and tossed me it and the quiver that was beside them.
"What about you?"
Shadow shrugged. "I set up traps around camp."I nodded and set out into the forest. "Come back before dark!"He yelled.
"Ok!"I yelled back as I followed a old trail.
A few hours later~
I trudged through the grass with two rabbits in my hands.Sadly I couldn't get bambi.I made my way up to the clearing and found Shadow with a rabbit,a raccoon and some wild strawberries.
"What did you get? "
I held up the two rabbits and he nodded."Thanks. "I sat down beside of him and watched as he skinned it, and he left the raccoon alone.
"Why aren't we cooking the racoon?"
"So we don't get rabies. "
"Oh. "I grimaced as I got my dagger and began to skin and gut my kills.I made rings around it's feet and made slices from the ring cuts to the backside of the rabbit.I worked the hide down past the genitalia of the rabbit,then I cut through the tail.I couldn't help but gag as I began to pull the hide down the body. I hate hate hate this! The hide came off of the animal easily and I set it in Shadow's pile. He crawled over to our backpacks and set a portable camping grill over the fire.
"Bring the rabbits. "I nodded and picked the them up. As soon as I was close Shadow stood up and took them from me, setting them on the grill."Why...? "
"So you don't get burned. "He said as he stood back up and admired his work. I scoffed.
"I could've done it. "
"I was closer. "
"Bu-"
"Stop."He turned to face me with a serious look. "I want you to relax a little.You've been on your own for God knows how long and I think you need some time to rest. "I looked at him like he was crazy.
"So your my servant now? "He tried to hide a grin and shook his head. "Alright, go get me some tea."Shadow rushed over to the nearest pine tree, then rushed back to our backpacks and took out a tin cup and put the needles in it,filled it with water from his canteen and set it over the fire with the rabbits.
"There you go,your Highness. "I giggled as he bowed.
"Thank you. "I went over to the "bed"and laid down and Shadow looked over at me then smiled.
"I'll keep first watch, Nyla."I nodded and patted the spot beside of me. He sat down and pulled a blanket over me.I pulled my katanas out of their sheaths and gave one to him and sat the other one beside me.Damnit.I got up and put every thing else inside my backpack and left my jacket on. I sighed and settled myself in the makeshift bed."Night, Nyla. "
"Night. "I forgot about the tea. Oh well...
