Rui POV

A sharpness hit my head, and my eyes were furrowed shut. I took in a large breath of the chilly air, feeling harsh pains throughout my chest and stomach.

I blinked my dry eyes open to reveal a neat, organized hospital room. I wrinkled my nose and my lips curled down.

It smelled like old people and dog hair, I wanted to puke. To my right, an IV bag hung from its pole, a long tube connected to a vein in my arm.

This hospital had been my home for the past week, and I was soon to be released. The sight was boring, looking out the window only revealed cars driving on a highway, and the T.V. had limited channels.

I wanted to die, but of course, when I tried to, it didn't turn out. Nobody visited me, and I had no idea why someone would have called an ambulance in the first place. After all, my whole life I was told that I was weird, worthless, and disgusting.

I was only in the second month of my first year in high school and I had just convinced my mother to let me transfer since my last school wasn't good for my mental health.

She didn't care about me, or what I wanted to do, so she just let me do anything I wanted. As good as it sounded, I never had a parent to love me, or a guide to show me what to do. She was rarely home, and I wished she would leave and never come back.

"Kamishiro, you have a visitor." A nice, tall lady with sleek black hair gave me a smile after walking into my room.

I glanced at her and awkwardly smiled back. "Who is it..?" I asked.

"She says her name is Kusanagi Nene. Do you know her?"

Nene? So she was the one that called. She knows how I felt, why didn't she just let me die? I squeezed my fists, holding back my disappointment.

"Let her in, please." I nodded and sat up straighter, fixing my upset expression.

Nobody had come to visit me yet, so I automatically felt off put by her wanting to see me. I'd became accustomed to being all by myself again, since the only people I saw were doctors.

As the woman turned around to leave, the sound of high heels clacking on the ground got quieter, and a small shy girl stepped into my field of view.

She looked worried and sped up her pace to sit beside me. "Rui..." She started, glancing at the ground.

Nene didn't say a word after that, and I didn't want to initiate anything, but I still did. "I'm sorry, Nene." I shivered, slightly from the cold and nervousness.

"I wanted to ask if you wanted to stay with me for a while. You're released tomorrow and..."

So that's what she wanted. I suppose Nene knows me better than anyone else. I smiled to myself for a moment. Staying with anyone would be better than being with my mother, or alone.

"That's fine. I appreciate you for being with me." Nene was my best friend, and I secretly was grateful that she'd allow me to stay with her.

The next day, I was still in pain, but it was bearable and I happily made myself home with Nene. She had always supported me, and even in a time like this, she didn't leave me.
