Karl had been excited throughout the course of his pregnancy. Even though he and his mate, Nick, definitely hadn't planned for that to happen, it had in the end and now they couldn't help but be enthusiastic and impatient for the arrival of their pup.

From the moment the contractions began, early in the morning, the two had spent the day practically glued to each other, nervous as the new parents they were about to become, and looking forward to the moment their little pup was finally with them. As was customary, only alpha and omega would attend to the birth. They had taken their classes, read the guides, and watched the videos, as well as having their own natural instincts to guide them. Nothing could go wrong. Until it did.

Karl had avoided mentioning how the process felt... wrong. He knew that it was supposed to hurt, that he would feel pressure, that it was not going to be a fun time, but Karl did not feel that the level of pain was normal. That the feeling of his insides tearing was something he could expect from the process. That finding himself nearly fainting every time a contraction commanded him to push was something he'd read in the guidebooks. His heart was pounding wildly in his chest, and he was almost beginning to fear that at any moment it would simply burst between his ribs.

The day after the first mild and barely discernible contractions began, Karl was squatting over a pile of towels in the living room, dangling from his grip around Nick's neck, who kept muttering words of encouragement and adoration towards the love of his life, who was currently bringing the greatest love of both's lives into the world. Exhausted gasps and pained cries almost drowning out the love speech constantly whispered in his ear.

When finally, after almost two days and an agony that bordered on unbearable, the long-awaited pup fell on the towel that would serve to welcome them into their parents' existence, the omega then collapsed against his mate, dizzy and once again feeling on the verge of passing out. Although Karl had a feeling that the next time he closed his eyes, he would not open them again to see his family.

"Honey! Oh, Karl, you did it! You did it, my love, our pup is here!" His young alpha's excited voice filled his chest with love, as he was fighting the exhaustion that had started wrapping its tendrils around him, his eyelids drooping heavily as the intense pain began to mute, giving way to a numb sensation of warmth and cold at the same time. "It's a girl, love. We have a little girl."

"N-Nick." he exclaimed, hearing his own voice struggling to escape his lips, surprisingly low for the volume level his agonized cries had been up to now.

"Yes, sweetheart?" He replied immediately, and the omega felt him separate slightly from him, to take his hands to the product of their relationship, who joined the scene with her own cries. Karl could hear his mate gasp in alarm. "Karl- Karl, holy fuck, you're bleeding a lot."

"I love you, Nick." The statement that had been said countless times barely managed to be uttered in a small voice by the omega.

"Yes, baby, I love you too, but- but you're gonna be okay, my love. I'll just-" With that, the shaking alpha carefully separated himself from his weak mate, laying him gently on the carpet to his right with the idea of going to get his phone.
