Shuichi's Pov:
"This is wrong. This is so wrong!" I rant over and over again to the brunette in front of me.
"Um, please calm down sir. You're being quite loud currently." She says while holding a very statue-like position.
"I'm so sorry Harukawa-Chan. I've just been so overwhelmed by this wedding coming up, I-"
"I completely understand sir, but I'm sure everything will be just fine. You and Akamatsu make an adorable couple." I sigh hearing those words slip out of her mouth.
"Yeah, maybe you're right. I tend to overthink quite a bit." I smile kindly at her as she repays me with a slight nod. Honestly, though, I'm still internally panicking. I'm only at the age of seventeen planning to get married so soon and taking on my father's throne. I'm not ready. Not one bit. I don't even know how to feel about my soon-to-be bride. I mean don't get me wrong she's amazing. She's sweet, talented, generous, and smart, but it feels like I'm missing something. Also considering the fact that I have a feeling she only sees me as a friend... Regardless, even after being married she'd still view me as a platonic partner.
"Harukawa, do you mind leaving me with my thoughts for a little while?" I mumbled out loud, feeling a little rude towards my friend.
"Yes, of course. Don't forget that you have a meeting in thirty minutes." She reminded me while turning towards the door. After hearing the doorknob click I immediately let out a shaky breath I didn't know I was holding. I flopped onto my bed, closing my eyes and massaging my temples. 'This is so stupid. I don't wanna get married. I don't want to inherit the throne. I just wanna make my own decisions for once.' After a bit of thinking and deep breathing, I decided to head downstairs early so I wouldn't get lectured about my time management. I slowly pulled on the doorknob, stepping out of my room and putting on a fake smile for my family and the Akamatsu's.
"Hello, Prince Saihara" A warm smile greeted me at the end of the hall.
"No need to be so formal ibadashi-kun." I stated to the kind butler in front of me.
"Yes yes, sorry prin- I mean Saihara-San." I smile at the normalish use of my name.
"Well, are you ready?" He asked, putting a hand on the large dining room doors. I nodded in affirmation before he opened the beautiful golden hinges.
"Presenting, Prince Saihara!" Ibadashi yelled, turning everyone's attention towards me.
"Hello Shuichi, glad you could finally make it." A loud voice rang throughout the room. Confused, I turned to the clock above my dad's chair. It was five minutes before the dinner was supposed to commence. But even so, he was still late according to his parents.
"Sorry, Father, Mother, Miss, and Mister Akamatsu" I walked over to the seat next to Kaede, taking my place. She smiled gently at me before she turned her attention back to our parents. My father glanced up from his glass of red wine and looked straight at me and Kaede.
"I'm so glad you kids are getting along. I'm excited to have you as my future daughter-in-law." He smiled.
"Speaking of, how are you both?" Kaede's mother asked. Before I could speak up, Kaede started talking.
"Good actually. Saihara is very very sweet. I'm sure he'll make a great future husband." I knew she was bluffing but nobody else in the room seemed to notice.
"That is great to hear! I'm sure Saihara will make a great king as well. Although he is quite skinny." Kaede's dad noted. I hated when they would make comments on my body. I have no muscle nor fat which means I don't look the part of a traditional king. I slightly frowned at the comment.
"I'm sure that'll change in a few years. You're gonna look just like your old man!" My father chuckled. I forced a laugh out with him but the thought itself made me quite uncomfortable.
"Speaking of the topic, Shuichi are you?-" my mother was cut off by the sound of the golden doors being pushed open. One of our guard's standing in the doorway.
"Your majesty's! I captured this THIEF stealing from our castle gardens!" The guard pushed a small purple headed boy towards us. He looked about my age. 16-17 years of age. His hair was tattered but it didn't touch his shoulders. It somehow defined gravity, sticking out all over the place. His clothes were covered in dirt and mud while smelling like sweat and grime.
"Momota-kun, if you can not tell we are quite busy right now. For now take him to the dungeon while we finish our discussion." My father stated sternly. Momota nodded, grabbing the purple haired boy by his arm harshly. I watched as the young boy got dragged out of the room. I pondered why he was stealing from the gardens in the first place? Why put yourself in this position? Why when you're so young and could potentially be killed?
