Kokichi's Pov:
"Hey! You get back here you little filthy thief!!" A man yelled at me as I sprinted down the dirt path. I taunted him by running backwards and sticking out my tongue, jumping over barrels as I ran giggling the whole way through. He continued to holler at me, grabbing people's attention. Random's started chasing after me yelling for me to stop.
"It's that damn thief again!" Some man decided to shout out. My legs continued to move eventually making it into the woods. As soon as I no longer heard the crowd, I collapsed onto the uncomfortable ground.
"Ughh. That was much more of a hassle today." I mumbled to myself, trying to catch my breath. A loaf of bread still grasped in my hands that I stole from a baker's stand. Do I feel bad? A little, but what else am I supposed to do? I have no money, no job, and no family. Nobody seems to care anyways. It's been like this since my mom died, and now all I have is myself. Plus those baker's are greedy. They have enough money to spare one small piece of bread, but they choose not too, just like everyone else in that town. I sigh silently, closing my eyes and laying on my back. I need to think about my next move. I'm too well known in that town. I'm basically famous just not for the right reasons. I don't steal much, normally just food and a couple of jewels here and there, only from the riches. But going back into that town I'd be tackled down and stripped of everything I have, even if it's basically nothing. I rip off a small piece of the bread in my hands and toss it into my mouth. It wasn't anything special. The taste was bland and the texture was stale, but it was better than nothing. I finish the small piece, chewing slowly to enjoy every bite. This was most likely my only meal for today so I had no choice but to tuck the rest of the loaf into my shirt pocket. Returning back to my previous thoughts, I needed to find a new town, a new home. I don't have a map or a compass so I decided I'd just roam around for a bit. Better to be lost in a forest than being mauled by the townspeople. In the distance I spot a very large pointed house. House? No, castle. The Sahara's Castle to be exact. I'm not very familiar with the Castle but I've seen it here and there during my travels. "It must be nice being a royal." I think out loud.
"They must have lots of food, money, comfort." I scoff.
"While normal people have to slave all day just for a few crumbs." The thought made me angry. It's completely unfair anyways. Royal blood my ass. But I guess it is what it is. I sigh once again before continuing my journey. After about a day of traveling I found myself in front of the castle gates.
"Huh?" Did I subconsciously come here? The tip of the castle was all I saw just a few hours ago. I thought to myself. Actually, what time is it? It had to be a new day since the sun was now hovering over the sky which was the moon not that long ago. The castle though? I can't stay here. There's no way. Guards surrounded the entrance so I couldn't even get close. I need a place to rest, I'm exhausted, but I can't stay here. There's no way- wait. The gates are opening? That's when I noticed the pink and gold carriage galloping towards the castle. This intrigued me, making me unable to take my eyes off of the carriage. Once it came to a stop, the man driving the carriage hopped off his seat and scurried to the door. I turned my attention back to the gates now, noticing that the Saihara's were walking towards it, but their son was nowhere to be seen.
"Now arriving, the Akamatsu's!" The man opening the carriage door announced. The Akamatsu's? Wait, that's right. The Akamatsu's daughter was supposed to marry the Saihara's son next year! I almost forgot. The moment I saw the Akamatsu's step out of their pink ride my eyes wandered to the Saihara's future daughter in law. She was wearing a very fluorescent pink dress covered in magenta flower prints and musical notes. Her blonde hair tied in a bun with a few strands hanging low, as well with a very pointy looking crown on top. I watched as the Akamatsu's and Saihara's greeted one another. Kissing each other's cheeks, hugging, and patting each other on the back while the Akamatsu's daughter just stared at them waiting for the greeting to end. Once it did, I heard the question being asked that also rang in my mind.
"Where is Shuichi?" Queen Akamatsu asked. Shuichi? So the mysterious Saihara prince's name is Shuichi? How interesting.
"He's quite busy right now. He had a very long and stressful day so he will be joining us a little later." King Saihara responded showing that he was a little annoyed at that fact himself.
"Ah I see" she simply replied.
"Well, should we get going then?" king Saihara asked, pointing towards his castle. The Akamatsu's responded with a nod that was a way of saying 'why yes of course'. My eyes followed each step they made into the castle. Wait. Maybe I can.- no. I shouldn't. They'd kill me, execute me, beat me, if they saw me in there. I'd be put through hell and back just stepping foot on their grounds. But on the other hand, my life already is a living hell. I could potentially go in there, grab and steal as much money and food as I want and never look back. But do it successfully? I can't. It'd be impossible. Right before turning around my eyes landed on a tall lady with short hair walking with a basket full of fruits and vegetables behind the castle gates.
"Morning Momota-kun, Harukawa-chan!" She smiled.
"Morning, Tojo-chan!" One of the guards yelled back. My mouth watered at the sight of fresh nutrients in that basket. I haven't eaten in sooooo long. I'm.. starving. My actions were now out of my control. I finished my last bit of bread hours ago and now my stomach was begging just for a little more. I need energy. I need food. My legs began to walk closer. I don't know why or how but they just started on their own. My head was yelling at me to turn around but my stomach just overpowered the reasonable answer. I knew they had a garden. A beautiful garden actually. Full of strawberries, blueberries, oranges, apples, carrots, tomatoes, and more. I needed it so so badly. Before I knew it, I darted past the guards in the direction I saw the kind looking lady walk from. One of the guards looked in my direction immediately, noticing that I wasn't supposed to be there. I don't care, not right now. It's too late anyways. I ran, something I've always been good at. Running. Running from the people who wanna tackle me down. Running from all my problems. Or maybe? Running into them? That's when I snapped out of it running straight behind a blueberry bush hoping the guard didn't see. I caught my breath just for a second then glanced at one of the beautifully plump berries on the bush. My hands immediately snatched it off the vine and dangled it in front of my mouth. Right before popping it in there, a hand grabbed the collar of my shirt yanking me from the ground, and caused me to drop my luscious berry where I was sitting a few moments ago.
"Damn it." I mumbled barely audible.
"HA! You thought you could get away stealing from the royal garden?! Think again, small one!" Of course it was the dumb guard that always seemed so cheerful. So annoying.
"You're coming with me! The Saihara's are not gonna like this one bit." He said before Turning towards the castle. Shit. This was not supposed to happen. Curse me and my food cravings."Your majesty's! I captured this THIEF stealing from our castle gardens!" The guard now throwing me in front of the royals. Ugh this is embarrassing.
"Momota-kun, if you can not tell we are quite busy right now. For now take him to the dungeon while we finish our meeting." King Saihara said sternly. I looked around the giant dining room focusing my eyes on the boy I haven't seen before. I'm assuming it is the prince. He was actually really pretty. He had navy blue hair that was nicely combed down with just one strand sticking straight up. His crown was much bigger than Kaedes but way smaller than the kings and his royal suit was so clean and perfect. I stopped staring at him once I realized I was looking for a bit too long. A hand grabbed my arm once again and I was dragged out of the royal dining room like a ragdoll, unable to bruise, unable to feel. I wasn't looking forward to the place I knew I was going to, but I closed my eyes and just waited til he stopped yanking my arm and released the painful pressure. He then lifted me over his shoulder tossing me around like I was simply a sack of potatoes or a bag of flour. I opened my eyes just for a moment, realizing that we were now walking down a bunch of steps leading most likely to the 'dungeon' the king was talking about. Once at the bottom he tossed open one of the cellars and threw me in immediately closing it right after.
"You stay in here til the king's ready. You got that?" I nodded my head confirming my answer even though I knew I didn't really have a choice. After he saw my reply, he pulled out a key and locked the cell, sealing the deal. There was no way out of this one. I now was stuck in a cellar on the cold hard ground with not only my last few breaths but an empty stomach which means I did all of this for nothing.
