01; a dream

" Finally.. "

Ari groaned while throwing her bag on the floor before plopping herself down on Eunji's bed, making Eunji giggle at her friend's behaviour.

"Hey Eunji, didn't you tell me before that you're applying for Seoul University?" Ari asked while looking at her friend curiously.

"Yeah... to be honest, I don't even know if I'm gonna get accepted. I mean-- it's really hard to get in there, and I don't think my grades are good enough" Eunji sighed.

Ari jumped from Eunji's bed, closing her mouth using her two hands dramatically.

"Girl don't even start. You're literally one of the few people in our grade who gets straight A's in every exam. Plus, you're in three, THREE clubs, and that's impressive you know" she scoffed.

"If that's not good enough, I'm literally gonna search all over your room and pull out your academic achievements" she continued, rolling her eyes in a playful manner.

"Im-- okay, you're right. But still, i don't have any high expectations, so don't come at me now" Eunji pouted playfully.

"Still, thanks for comforting me" Ari smiled and hugged Eunji, patting her head at the same time.

It's true that Eunji has good grades. Hell, she's even one of the smartest student in her grade, resulting in the teachers high expectations on her. Despite all of the praises people shower her with, she didn't like that one bit.

High expectations.. she hated that the most.

She felt like she was forced to be good at everything, and she was afraid to make mistakes. She wanted to get off her studies for a while and find something that she can truly enjoy, which was art and music.

Eunji was good at almost everything, she excels in both studies and sports, especially archery. Thanks to that, a lot of students look up to her, saying that they want to be just like her.

The only thing she wasn't good at was talking. She doesn't hate being surrounded by people, she just doesn't know how to initiate conversation with them. The only people she talked the most with are her two bestfriends, Ari and Sunghoon.

"Talking about the art club, do you remember a boy named Terry? Taerae? I think his name was Taerae. Anyway, I heard that he's pretty famous in our school" Ari spoke as she focused on her phone, scrolling down her gallery to find a picture of the guy she had just mentioned.

Ari showed the picture to Eunji. "Taerae? Yeah I know him. He's in the same club as me, but we never had any proper conversation before. Why, are you interested in him?" Eunji smirked at her friend, teasing her.

"Um, no! Obviously not! I was just... curious, i guess?" Ari stuttered, making it obvious to Eunji that she was lying.

"Mhm sure..." Eunji giggled a bit. She loved teasing her friend and Ari's reactions had never failed to make her laugh.

Little did Eunji know that Ari wasn't interested in Taerae at all, but instead she heard rumors about the boy's silly crush on Eunji. It was just a mindless rumor she heard in the hallway, but she thought that it could be true, or well she hoped it was true.

"Anyways! Enough talking about boys" Eunji quickly changed the topic.

"Let's---- " before she could even continue her sentence, they heard horrifying screams from downstairs, making them instantly jerked their heads towards the sound.

Silence filled the air.

"What the hell was that?"

The girls looked at each other as their faces went pale, they were scared and confused. The two girls slowly made their way to the living room, tip-toeing their way downstairs.

As both of them arrived at the living room, they were approached with a horrifying image in front of them, making them instantly let out a fearful scream.

It was Eunji's dad, and a horrible looking 'thing'. The 'thing' was chewing on her dad's face, blood splattering all over the floor.

"What... " Eunji couldn't say anything.

Her legs gave up on her and she fell on the floor; she had no strength to get up and do anything. She was weak.

All she could do in that moment was watch her dad being murdered in front of her. After all, this wasn't real. She told herself it was a dream, she had to be dreaming.

Weird noise could be heard under the kitchen's table. Eunji's younger brother, Dani was hiding there with both hands covering his ears. He closed his eyes, he refused to see his dad in that.. state. The little boy was trying not to cry, but to no avail.

Ari panicked. She quickly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the 'thing' on its head, making it collapse on the floor. Her hands were covered with the red liquid.

"What the fuck is going on.." Ari muttered under her breath. The whole place was a mess, with blood all over the floor and cries could be heard from the two siblings.

She couldn't believe what was happening. Human eating another human? Is that even possible? Just what is going on? Ari didn't spare any time and quickly grabbed the siblings hands and took her car's key.

She knew they had to run away from that place. She pushed Eunji and Dani into the car. Both of them were still in a shocked state, they couldn't even walk properly.

Something bad is going on.. Surely it's not the end of the world, right?
