Chapter 7

Amore's POV:

It was a sleepless night.

After Luke left my room I let myself cry, but only for a little bit. I can't just sit here in self-pity because that doesn't get anything done so I wipe the tears with the back of my hand. I turn my phone over towards the nightstand and the clock reads "5:00" am. I let out a groan as I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep after many nights ending like this. I decided to go down to the kitchen to get some water hoping it would help, but knowing it wouldn't be in the back of my mind. I cringe as my feet hit the cold floor of the house, before moving to the stairs trying to be quiet so I wouldn't wake any of the others up knowing I would feel at least a little guilty if I did, well to anyone who's not Ashton of course. Moving into the kitchen, opening the fridge as the lights suddenly turn on "What are you doing up so early?" Ashton said, confused.

Resulting in me hitting my head on the fridge, as I didn't expect anyone to be up at this hour. I figured they wouldn't be up till noon at least, so when Ashton ended up coming to the kitchen it surprised me.

"What the fuck Ashton? Why did you do that?" I said with an annoyed tone in my voice while I rubbed the back of my head with a pout on my face.

"Do what? Walk into the kitchen of my own house?" He raised an eyebrow, clearly confused.

"Whatever." I said, closing the fridge before moving to find the cups. Opening the cupboards and I look up to see some cups on the top shelf sighing knowing I wasn't going to be able to reach it, but there was no way in hell I would ask for help. Getting up on my toes trying to at least reach the bottom of the cup knowing I would be able to just grab it that way.

I started to lift myself on top of the counter but two strong hands gripping my waist stopped me from doing so. I paused and took a deep breath and the silence was thick in the air making me gulp out of nervousness.

"Are you insane? You would really rather risk falling off a kitchen counter than ask me to get a glass down for you?" He said in a whisper tone but his hands never moved from their spot on my waist.

"Well-" I started to speak but he quickly dropped his hands and gently pushed me aside to be able to reach the shelf. I watch as his muscle flexes as it straightens out and my intrusive thoughts tell me to touch it but thankfully, before I can do that Ashton brings down the glass and hands it to me. His face doesn't show any emotion, but neither does mine as we look directly into each other's eyes.

"Whoa is it a party in here?!" Calum yells as he comes around the corner but comes to a brief stop when he sees Ashton and me standing so close together. With the heat rising to my cheeks, I take a small step back and move to the fridge once more to get my water then I bolt out of the kitchen. I don't leave completely though. I just stand out in the hallway because knowing Calum he will be asking a lot of questions and just like him, I want to know the answers to them.

"So here you are getting mad at Michael for being close with her but yet from what I saw it looked like there was going to be a replay of when you had your first kiss with Cassie on your 14th birthday." I heard Calum say almost letting out a laugh from him outing Ashton without a second thought.

I hear Ashton scoff before closing the cupboard moving as he opens the fridge to get something out putting it down on the counter as he answers Calum.

"What? I was just getting the glass for her. Also, you really need to stop bringing up my 14th birthday man, it's weird." Ashton said as if it was nothing.

"No cause giving her "fuck me" eyes is totally nothing, for sure mate and I will never stop." Calum said with some playfulness in his tone knowing he was getting under Ashton's skin more than Ashton was letting on.

I hold back a gasp when I hear the bottle hit the counter hard before hearing some movement as Calum let out a groan as he hit what I'm guessing was the fridge hearing Ashton breathing heavily as if he had just gone on a ten mile run.

"Come on Ashton I mean look at yourself getting all pissy. When someone even remotely brings up your feelings for anyone who's not Addi-" Calum gets cut off before he could finish his sentence.

"Don't. Don't you dare say her name." Ashton said as he let Calum go before he moved out of the kitchen making me hug the wall more so he wasn't able to see me. After he had made it to the second floor I went to see if Calum was okay. When I got into the kitchen I saw him leaning against the counter looking down at the floor and running a hand through his hair.

One thing my mother taught me is that people give away what they are feeling through their body language the way they are positioned when standing, or if they are tense or relaxed when with a person. Some, of course, are harder to read than others, but everyone has slip-ups where they let the emotions come through, and right now Calum is having a slip-up. He was tense but yet also very tired at the same time just by the veins in his neck and arms popping up but the way that his shoulders are slouched gave him the look of him being tired.

Calum looked up to me after a few minutes of me standing there not because he didn't realize I was there but because it was like he almost didn't care that I was there seeing him broken down. Some would say vulnerable looking. Giving him a small smile as he copied me before walking out of the kitchen back to the hallway where he came from just minutes before, leaving with a feeling of sadness for him but mostly the feeling of confusion at what had just happened between him and the black-haired male.
