As I predicted Nina didn't believe me when I told her. Not only that, but she also told me to fuck off and pushed me away. I stepped back from the door as she opened it and ran outside. I knew that she wouldn't be able to leave since we were so far from town. So, I throw on some clothes before I followed her. Even though my bear growled about it. He had retreated within me when she started to yell. He hadn't it when she was angry. I knew that she wasn't just angry. She was right. I felt like an a real jerk. I shouldn't have kept her own story from her. The guidelines for good mating were not to lie or keep secrets from your mate. It was to tell them everything, be open with them and hope they understand. Even though I had promised Tobias I didn't want this to start off with secrets. It wasn't my fault that Tobias didn't want to tell his daughter. I should have more faith in her. She was an adult; she had the ability to make her own decision about information that she gets.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to treat you like a child," I said trying to sound as honest I could. Nina just looked at me, her face plain and unimpressed; she obviously didn't care for my sorry. I moved towards her "I shouldn't have..."
"Get away from me" she interrupted me.
"I can take you home if you like," I asked her. Remaining calm even though my bear was aching for her. He wanted to calm her down and hold her.
"I'm never getting in another car with you again," she said. Moving away from me as I picked up the keys and handed them to her.
"You can drive yourself home if you like?" I said trying to sound relaxed. She frowned at me, and I knew what was coming.
"I don't need your help. I'm just going to walk back" she said opening the door after getting her shoe on.
"It's going to take a few hours," I said. She slammed the door in my face. Of course, I wasn't going to let her just walk home alone. She was walking towards the driveway, as I saw Jade and Rory drive in. My bear launched for the surface, not liking the idea of Rory being closer to her than I was.
"Nina?" Jade asked while getting out of the car.
"Hi," Nina said, awkwardly waving but not actually stopping.
"You look like me," Jade said smiling. Nina stopped then looked at her confused "When I first meant Rory, I was doing the walk of shame out of the house" Jade laughed, Rory walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her belly.
"It wasn't a shame, it was heaven," he said. He kissed her neck as Jade pushed him off. I wanted to be doing that Nina, but I knew that she wouldn't let me that close. When I turned back to Nina, she had her mouth open like she was going to argue, her face was getting red, and I noticed her eyes were starting to squirt. Her migraine was back.
"So, you're Todd's mate," Rory said. I thought he was going to hold out his hand to her and I growled just to make sure he did. Nina frowned at me.
"Yes," Nina said. I was surprised that she said yes.
"That means you can come to the Sunday night dinners. Todd is a great cook. You should bring your dad one night" Jade said, moving away from Rory. Jade moved closer to Nina who straightened up as I approached her.
"I don't think so," she said. Jade rolled her eyes and spoke.
"I know, Todd's hydrangeas aren't as good as yours. But when you move in you will be able to make them shine" Jade said.
"No, I won't be moving in with Todd," Nina said. Rory gave me a look, I put my hand up to signal that I would tell him later. How much later? I didn't know. I wasn't going to let her walk home alone and there was no way I was going to let her stay at her house alone.
