I generally wasn't a screamer. I yelled, I complained, I spoke loudly, but that high pitched, wailing screaming, like Kim Basinger from Batman. I didn't do that, I never that. If I was surprised, I swore; if I was scared, I swore. But now, I was challenging Kim in the loudest way possible. A massive bear had grabbed Dolly by the scruff and threw her hard against the cave wall. The bear roared so loudly it shock the cave, dusty and small rocks fell from the roof.
"Maybe not so loud" Dad said, as he bowed to his head. The bear landed hard on four legs snarling at the Jaguar. I assumed it was Todd, I thought he would be the only other bear that would come for me. It took me a moment to realise that the bear wasn't alone, a lion with a full rich mane launched in behind the bear. Getting between the bear and the jaguar. I thought the lion was going to protect the jaguar instead it seemed to corner the animal. Keeping it against the wall in which it fell.
"Racer?" I spoke. I looked at Dad, he gave me face, as that was only part of his body he could move without pain. Lions generally didn't try to protect anyone other than their own kind.
"Keep her back Racer, are you ok?" Logan walked into the cave followed up a grey wolf. The wolf was sniffing the ground and pricked up his ears like he had scent something new. Logan had started to untie me as he noticed the wolf. As the rope dropped from my legs I ran over to my father as the bear started to nuzzle me.
"Thank Magnar" I said kissing the bear on the snot. I smiled at the bear, grateful that he was here. I had no idea how they found out, but I knew right now. That there was nothing I could do that would ever make up for this. Todd didn't just save me but my father, who was so important to me.
"Don't touch me" my father said.
"But..." I stumbled; I didn't know much about gags, but he couldn't stay in there. I knew a gag was designed to keep shifters under control. That they were a torture device to stop shifter from shifting but also to keep them restrained. They were like more animal restraints, expect if the shifter moved or tried to shift while wearing one, the shifter would die by strangulation.
"If you try to do anything it will just kill him faster" the grey wolf had shifted, a man in a long coat walked over with a key in his hands.
"We learnt last year trying to force them off will just make it worst. You either need a key or welding torch," Logan said as he handed me a wrap for my arm. My blood was painting the cave floor as I wrapped it tight. Logan moved over to the lion, "Can you make her shift?" he asked the lion. The lion started to morph as bone broke and his fur dropped to the floor. I was surprised to see that he wasn't naked.
"I can try," Racer said. He took a few steps towards the jaguar that yelled and swiped at him "Mum, I need you to shift now. Please, it's Daniel. I need your help, please shift." I looked at Dad, who was slowly getting out of the gag, he was also looking at Racer. Surprised by his calm, gentle tone of voice, it was different to the voice he used when I saw him at the police station. The jaguar roared at him, but Racer didn't move "Please mum, please shift" He had his hands up and knelt. The jaguar flinched like something was thrown at it. "Hi mum, it's me" Racer said again as the jaguar started to shift, it was slow. It looked painful.
Every time a saw a shifter shift, it looked awkward, but it never seemed painful or difficult. They did it in a fluid motion, like put on a new suit. They never roared or cried out, it was quick and simple looking. Though Dolly seemed to be fighting, the jaguar wanted to stay while the human wanted to come out. A few times her hands would appear but then the paws would return.
"We can go home now," Raver said. The jaguar's roar turned into a scream as Dolly's face appeared, her body slowly turn back into a human as Racer gathered up a dress from the ground for her. She was naked, as the men turned away. Dolly panted for a long time before realising that dress was there and putting it on. When she was clothed and ready, she looked at her son.
