It was easier to break my lease than I thought it would be. After the break in the real estate said that it would take ages to fix. I argued the place was unlivable, citing safety concerns following my recent kidnapping, so I should be able to break my lease. Which made them agree very quickly. When I asked why it was going to take forever. They said the landlord, Ian Fieldman had not been replying to their emails or calls. When I told Todd this, he thought it was strange, but even he couldn't get in touch with his friend.
"I'm worried about him," Todd said quietly to me on Sunday dinner a month after everything had happened.
"Do you want to go to the capital?" I asked him. Todd had told me that Ian had been temporarily living in the capital for the last few years. Flying back and forth to help pass the boundary laws. Which I didn't know much about.
"I don't know, I'll see if anyone has spoken to him first. We could send Tobias" Todd suggested smiling.
"If he already has problems, he doesn't need another one," I said laughing. We both looked down the table to see dad feeding Isla on a highchair.
I had moved out of the apartment straight into Todd's house. Dad was also living with us, well temporarily while Rory and Todd built him a granny flat. The flat would be out the front of the ranch, closer to the driveway than any of the houses. The purpose for this location, as Logan said, was that anyone who arrived would be so annoyed by the old man they would turn and leave. Leaving the rest of us in peace. I highly agreed with his statement.
Dad was travelling to work every day with Elisa to be at the age care centre, so he wasn't alone. He was called an out-resident. A patient that lived with their family at night but went to age care during the day. He said it felt like going to kindergarten as a child. I told him anything to keep him supervised. Because of this arrangement, him and Elisa were becoming good friends and he was also becoming the ranch's nanny. Which he was loving. Since living on the ranch, I had met Grace and their children Faith, and Adam, who was nearly a month old. Dad was great with children and found new purpose in helping Grace while on maternity leave.
"Did you just call me annoying?" Dad asked down the table while landing another aero plane of mash pasta in Faith's open mouth.
"Every day" I said back.
"You two fight a lot" Daniel said pointing between me and dad. Daniel was now always invited to Sunday dinner, but he didn't come every week. He had travelled up state to help Dolly settled into the reserve. He said he didn't like being so far away from his mother, but she was doing well even if she didn't see him every day. A week later Daniel left the lion gang with the help of Logan, Reg, and Striker. They all went with him when he told Tanner and the rest of the gang that he was out. As predicted the lion gang tried to fight, which lead to all of them being arrested for attacking a police officer. This result in the station offering a new service which they called 'forsaking'. For anyone who needed help leaving a situation, not just the lion gang. From what Sia had told me, it was being used mostly for human women who need to escape their domestic violence situation.
Afterwards the cops got a warrant to raid the ranch. They found three other gags hanging in the garage. Cody confessed that he brought the gags off people in Matland who made them. This was at the requested of Tanner, who refused to say what he planned to use them for. When I heard about it, I got angry. I started to email everyone, the local senator, the police, and other government officials. Logan said that I didn't have to do that, since he had already done it. He obviously didn't know me very well.
"They are too much alike" Todd said, I gave him a look a horror.
"How dare you?" I spoke.
"What's it like sharing a bed with your father-in-law?" Rory asking, I nearly spat out my wine with laughter as Todd through a pea at this third brother.
