Flashes of bright varying colors lit up a dark sky, as fireworks exploded amongst the stars. It was a festival, held by a great town. Crowds were bustling with joy and happiness, with everyone entranced by the colorful explosions of the sky.
Standing outside of their home was a family of four. A mom and dad, with two young children. A girl with messy orange hair, and crimson eyes. And a boy with ash blonde hair, and sharing the same eyes as his sister.
"Keep your eyes on the sky, Sekien." A soft female voice spoke into the young boy's ear. "Maybe there might be a giant firework soon."
A loud crack and sizzle was heard, as another firework exploded. A bright red light from the explosion lit up Sekien's entranced face, smiling with glee.
"Mom, I don't think he cares about what kind of firework goes off." The elder sister of the young Sekien spoke. "He has that stupid smile, no matter what explosion happens-"
"Tanebi!" The father interjected, who had orange hair, and crimson eyes. "That's no way to speak to your brother!"
"What? It's true." The young girl defended, before being interrupted by the sound of another firework. A yellow flash lit up the town, causing Sekien, who didn't even care for his sister's comments, to start laughing.
"These fireworks are so COOOOOL!" Sekien practically screamed. "I want to see more and more! Forever!"
Another bang went off, drowning out the awkward swallow from the mother from being heard by Sekien. But then, with a sigh, she tapped Sekien on the shoulder... but he didn't budge. "Sekien..."
Another firework popped, causing more laughter. "He's four." The father responded. "Let him have his fun before..."
The man suddenly felt chills down his spine. Looking down the street, he saw a man in a dark red coat holding a cigar, watching the family closely. Sekien's dad gulped, as the distant man pointed a finger gun at his family, pretending to shoot them. Another firework exploded in sync with this action.
"L-Listen honey, I don't think all four of us can just... run away from the Yakuza." The father argued. The mother, with her face hidden, didn't want to agree. But with the debt she has, she knew it wouldn't be long until her children become involved in something they shouldn't.
A blue light lit up in sync with another bang, as the mother tried one more time to get her son's attention. "Listen, Sekien... These fireworks... You said you want them to last forever?"
"MHM! MHM!" The young kid ecstatically nodded his head, as his mom gulped in sorrow.
"That's... That's the thing about fireworks. They never last long. They can be made, over and over again... but once they shine... you never see that same one ever again.
A purple explosion lit up the night sky, but Sekien no longer laughed. In fact, his smile was slowly dropping as his mothers words continued.
"But... You remember them, right?" She reassured Sekien. "You see, it's not about the brightest explosions, or the most colorful art... It's all about the impression and memories it leaves on you." She then taps Sekien on the chest, where his heart is. "In here... Do you understand?"
Sekien starred up in silence, as the greatest firework in the festival rocketed up into the sky. "Y-Yeah..." Sekien said quietly, as he slowly started looking away from the colossal multi-colored explosion in the sky, lighting up everything.
"So please... No matter what happens to me..."
Sekien, for the first time since the festival began, looked at his mothers face... only to suddenly recoil back in fear, seeing nothing but static and fuzziness blocking her facial features.
