Charlie kept Amelie at home for another week after she was released from the hospital. He confined her to bedrest. When she walked out of the hospital room that day she was engulfed in a hugs from Bella, Charlie and surprisingly Jacob. He and Billy had been sitting in the lobby for two day. Billy kept giving her looks that said he wanted to talk to her but they couldn't find a way to do it. In the end, he just told her that she needed to come down to the reservation more to get some sun because it would improve her health.
The whole time she sat at home alone she would go to their back porch and concentrate on trying to make the rocks and sticks move or break. After days of not achieving anything, by Sunday afternoon she was able to make a medium sized rock role itself in a circle, break and then put itself back together. When everyone got back form work and school she would pretend that she wasn't falling apart on the inside. Lying to Charlie was easy, she barley knew him and was able to dance around the truth like she was a ballerina. But lying to Bella was different. She had know her her whole life. The two girls had been inseparable since Amelie was born so lying to her was tearing her heart apart.
Monday was the first day going back to school. She was worried. What if she lost control and hurt herself, or someone else? Her hands trembled as she got dressed. A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.
"Are you ready?" Bella asked, she stood next to the door uncomfortably.
Amelie knew that she had been ignoring Bella, but she told herself that it was okay because it was for her safety. Amelie nodded in response to Bellas question.
"Okay then, let's go or we'll be late."
Amelie grabbed her bag and followed her sister outside. The snow that had been falling for the past few days and now melted and turned into ice. In typical Bella fashion, once she stepped down from the stairs, she slipped. To stop herself from falling she grabbed Amelies neck, practically choked her and pulled herself up.
"Sorry." Bella said to Amelie once she steadied herself.
"It's fine." Amelie said, rubbing her now sore neck.
Charlie ran over to his two girls to make sure they were okay. "You okay?"
"Yeah, ice doesn't really help the uncoordinated." Bella told him.
"Yeah, that's why I've had some new tires put on the truck, the old ones were getting pretty bald. Well, I'll probably be late for dinner today. I've got to head down to Mason County. Security guard at Grisham Mill got killed by some kind of animal over there."
Amelie paused as she put her bag in the passengers seat. "An animal?"
"You girls aren't in Phoenix anymore. Anyway, I figured I'd lend a hand." He walked to his police cruiser.
"You be careful." Bella told him.
Charlie nodded in response, "Always am."
Bella and Amelie looked at eachother over the back on the truck bed before getting in and driving to school. In her first class she sat at the back of the room again and began working on her sketch of Charlies house before the bell rang. The blonde girl, who Amelie had learned was called Rosalie from Jessicas speech about the Cullens, sat down next to her awkwardly. The sat there in awkward silence while the rest of the class got to work. This continued for most of the class until Rosalie turned to her.
"I'm sorry." The girls said to her stiffly.
Amelie looked up at her but didn't say anything, Rosalie continued.
"It's all my fault and for that I am sorry. I know you didn't want this and I forced you into this, you didn't choose this."
Amelie shook her head and smiled at her. " I figured it would have happened eventually. I'm Amelie." She extended her hand.
"I'm Rosalie." She looked confused but took her hand anyway.
They sat in silence for the rest of the class, but this time it wasn't awkward.
They gathered their things as the bell rang and nodded their goodbyes before leaving eachother in the hallway.
After a whole day of "Oh my god, how are you?" and "Are you okay?" Amelie was just happy that she was going back home. She walked across the parking lot with her headphones in until she heard screeching tires. Amelie turned just in time to see Tylers black van collide with Bellas truck. She watched as her sister who had just been standing there, disappeared behind the vehicle.
"Bella!" Amelie yelled.
She sprinted all the way to Bella truck across the parking lot. The second that she rounded the corner she saw Bella was sitting on the pavement looking dazed and confused but otherwise unhurt.
"Bella, what the hell?" Amelie said as she pulled her sister into a hug.
Bella didn't reply and just sat there. Amelie could hear majority of the school behind her and the kids crowded around making Kate feel claustrophobic. She just wanted to get her sister out of there. An ambulance came not long after and pulled Bella into the back with the docters. Amelie jumped in with her and they called Charlie on the way to the hospital. As the school faded in the distance, she couldn't help but feel like Forks was going to be the death of the two sisters.
Amelie was sitting with Bella in the Emergency Room when Charlie came running in.
"Bella, Amelie, are you okay?" He asked before turning to Tyler, "you and I are going to have a talk."
Bella tried to calm Charlie down, "I'm fine dad, calm down."
Tyler kept talking, "I'm sorry Bella, I tried to stop."
"I know, it's okay."
Charlie snapped at Tyler, "It most sure as hell is not okay."
"That's what I said," Amelie argued, "She won't listen. She almost got killed and she's acting like it's any other day."
"Guys," Bella shouted at them, "It's not his fault!"
Charlie turned to Tyler once more. "You can kiss your license goodbye."
Just then, the door to the emergency room opened and Amelie saw Carlisle walk in. When he approached Bellas examining table he made eye contact with Amelie and she nodded, telling him that she was okay. Carlisle quickly looked back at Bella but Amelie saw that she was giving them a questioning look.
"The chief daughters just can't stay out of the hospital." He said smiling at Charlie.
Charlies face quickly relaxed, "Ah, Dr. Cullen."
"Charlie, Amelie," He greeted them before turning to Bellas chart, "Isabella..."
"Bella" She corrected.
Carlisle smiled at her, "Well Bella, looks like you took quite the spill, how do you feel?"
"Good."
He did a few test and told Bella that she might be experiencing post traumatic stress or disorientation and that she would be fine.
"You know, it would have been a whole lot worse if Edward hadn't been there. He knocked me out of the way." Bella said watching Carlisles reaction.
"Edward was there?" Amelie asked her.
Bella nodded
"Edward? Charlie asked "Your boy?"
Carlisle nodded as well.
"It was amazing, I mean he got to me so fast, he was nowhere near me."
Carlisle and Amelie shared another look over Bellas head. Amelie gave a tiny shake of her head to tell him that she hadn't told Bella the Cullens secret. Carlisle quickly looked for a way out of the situation
"Sounds liek you were very lucky. Charlie, Amelie," Carlisle gave each of them a small nod of the head before leaving the room.
Amelie took Bella by the arm. "Come on Bells, lets get you out of here."
