Y/n POV -
"I'm fine, really"
Mai hasn't left my side in the past few days. I love him, truly, but this is just....
excessive.
"No, Lady Y/n. You are sick and you need to rest and not leave this room." Mai says, switching out the cloth on my forehead for the 6th time in the past hour.
"Mai, I've been battling this illness since I was a kid. I can handle myself." I say, honestly just wanting him to leave.
"Well, uh..." Mai begins, keep his eyes outside. "I hear the sun is bad for you when you're sick. Ya, that's it."
On top of being sick, Mai is also confusing me to no end. What is his obsession with keeping me inside?
Suddenly, we both hear frantic footsteps outside. My bedroom door swings open, only for me to find...
"Kira? - Oh it's Master Tengen. Greetings." Mai says, bowing. I wonder why he was expecting Kira; I thought they hated each other.
"Y/n!" Tengen yells. "How are you? Are you okay? Don't die on me!"
"Tengen, I'm -"
"Don't tell Makio this, but you are actually my favorite! Please don't leave me!!!" Tengen cries.
I cringe internally; he's acting a little dramatic.
"Honey, I'm fine. No need to worry." I comfort him.
"But, In your letter you said that -" He begins, but I silence him.
"That was before, Mai has been very helpful."
Tengen steps back, taking a deep breath and calming himself down.
"Ok, good. Don't scare people like that, Y/n. It will make you less popular." He informs me, before looking around my room.
"Is there something you need?" Mai asks Tengen.
"Yes, Kira. I was going to show her some new tricks today as well."
Mai looks to the ground, a look of guilt sweeping across his face.
"Mai, Where's Kira?" I ask him.
He doesn't respond, instead he turns away, folding up some random blankets in the corner.
"Mai, just tell me where she is." I say, a bit more sternly.
"Not here." he simply says; I can feel a hint of anger in his tone.
"If you had a fight, just tell me and we can solve the problem." I say. Mai always listens to me. But today, he just feels.... different.
He continues to ignore me, and I know somethings wrong. Mai is the first person to tell me if Kira did something wrong. What gives?
"Mai, tell me where Kira is." I order, but Mai walks towards the door.
"MAI!!!" I yell, and he stops in his tracks.
"Look at me." I say.
Mai turns to me, and I see tears welling up in his eyes. He drops to the floor, as if begging for forgiveness.
"I tried to stop her, Lady!!! I tried to keep her safe, but she wouldn't listen..." He cries.
My eyes widen, and fear starts to bubble up inside me.
"What did she do?" I ask.
Mai looks up at me, urging me to not over - react.
"She left... to the forest last night." Mai explained. "She said she wouldn't come back until she helped you."
The fear has fully set in. It's my fault. I never told her about the dangers in that forest; I though she wouldn't do something so stupid.
"Tengen, help me up." I say.
"No Y/n, your -"
"Help me up, Damn it!!!" I yell, feeling all of the emotions at once right.
The two men frantically help me up, and I reach for my robe and sword.
"Y/n, its too risky. Please don't go alone." Mai pleads.
"Than come with me. I will find Kira," I say softly.
"Whatever it takes."
