Chapter 7

Standing in the middle of the broken fortress I had no choice in what had happened remembering how in just one day I lost everything close to me, turning to walk away suddenly i got the feeling of my skin burning.

My entire body erupted in flames dropping down to the ground crawling forward when in the reflection of the water i looked like a monster the exact on my father turned into.

I jerked awake feeling relief wash over myself being in the front seat taking a bottle out my bag taking sips of it when Joel cleared his throat "You okay?" he asked

"Yeah i'm fine" i replied screwing the cap on putting the bottle in the bag turning to look out the window at the passing trees 

"You want to talk about it?" Joel asked concerned

I sighed "What would be the point" 

Joel rubbed his face looking like might fall asleep "Help clear your conscious" 

"No" i'm stern in my decision "Unless your willing to talk about yours" 

Joel grumbled not wanting to get too personal on this subject looking in the back mirror to see Ellie peacefully asleep she looked adorable 

I think Joel knew what i was thinking chuckling to himself.

*Timeskip*

Ellie had been reading a comic completely unknown to Joel who kept slouching he rubbed his eyes.

"Oh. man" she said in awe of what she is reading

"Hey, what happened to sleeping?" Joel said 

"Okay, I know it doesn't look like it, but this here is not a bad read" She showed off the comic "Only one problem" she flipped to the end page "right there. 'To be continued'" 

I snorted doing a half laugh "Cliffhangers" 

"I hate them" She pouted

Joel squinted his eyes "Where did you get that?" he asked curious

"Uhh, back at Bill's. I mean, all this stuff was just lying there" Ellie giggled telling him 

Joel turned to me "You were supposed to be watching her" 

"I did" i said smirking 

Joel let out a sigh "what else did you get?" 

"Well" Ellie smiled reaching into her backpack "Here. This make you all nostalgic" she handed him a tape 

Joel smirked "You know, This is actually before my time" he smiled "That is a winner though" he popped into the tape deck hearing the gentle soothing music play

Enjoying the good rhythm of the music tapping my foot to the beat when Ellie pulled out another book "I'm sure 'your friend' will be missing this tonight" 

Joel didn't pay much attention at first neither did i since it was probably another comic 

"light on the reading, but it's got some interesting photos" She continued 

I finally turned to see she is holding a porn mag "Ellie, fuck sake" shifting my eyes away trying to hold in my laughter she went ahead and threw it out the window as we passed a sign marked Pittsburgh.

Joel slowed the truck down because the highway is blocked by cars he gripped wheel choosing to turn to go the other in hopes cutting across the city would be faster and less impactful admiring the tall standing building.

Joel suddenly slammed on the brake i looked to see a man stumble out to the middle of the road there appeared to blood on his midsection "Please help" he cried out getting closer
