SAGE
Cassandra had her class in the other building, and I was finally on my break. We had headed to the cafeteria together first, where she sweetly gifted me a juice drink before rushing off. She really was a wonderful friend.
With a smile, I punctured the seal with my straw and took a sip. As I stepped back into the main hallway, I noticed an unusually large crowd of students.
They were all hovering just a short distance from the locker room. What is going on? I wondered.
They all looked hesitant, whispering and looking toward my locker. As I tried to squeeze through the pack of students, they instantly recoiled, parting ways.
I guess this is the one advantage of being an outcast, I mused, laughing to myself. I kept walking, but my amusement vanished instantly. Horror struck me, freezing me in my tracks. My knees grew so weak I almost tripped.
It was her. It was Amara.
She was leaning against my locker, waiting. The moment she sensed my presence, her piercing, deadly stare locked directly onto mine.
Those hypnotic eyes. Her stunning, wavy brown hair fell perfectly over her shoulders. How could I ever forget her face? She was the one who had saved my life once before.
My mind spun. I couldn't think straight, yet my legs kept moving until I stood just a few steps away from her.
"Sage, right?" she asked, her voice dangerously low. How did she know my name?
Panic flared in my chest. Even though I was completely confused, I nodded. Then she extended her hand for a handshake.
I stared at her hand, then snapped my gaze back to her eyes. That stare was bone-chillingly cold and entirely devoid of emotion. Those feline eyes were breathtaking, but terrifying.
My throat went dry. Overwhelmed by nervousness, I desperately sucked down a massive gulp of juice through the straw.
"Be my girlfriend," she blurted out. The shock hit me like a physical blow. Before I could process the words, a reflex took over.
PFFFFT- - I spit the juice right onto her face.
'Oh no... what did I just do?! I slammed my hand over my mouth. "What the f--" Amara muttered. She slowly opened her eyes, the juice dripping down her flawless face.
"Oh Goodness! I-I'm so sorry, A-Amara! I didn't mean to-" Panicking, I rushed forward, pulling out my handkerchief to gently wipe the liquid from her skin.
But she didn't let me. With incredible force, she harshly shoved my hands away and pushed me back. I winced as I slammed into the opposite row of lockers. Ouch that really hurts.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" she roared. "Are you always this rude to someone who just wants to be friends with you?!" I froze.
What? She wants to be friends? But she just asked me to be her... "I-I'm sorry!" I stuttered.
"I-I was just so surprised... You literally just asked me to be your girlfriend..." Amara stopped mid-motion, her hand freezing as she wiped the juice from her hair.
