"That was so uncalled for," Acacia mumbled under her breath and speed walked towards the elevators while Bradley followed closely behind her.Acacia reached for the elevator button and Bradley grabbed for her hand instantly triggering her fight or flight response.
"Don't touch me," she yelled out while pulling her hand back.
"I'm not going to touch you," he said while he held his hands up.
"Just let me explain," he pleaded with her.
"You don't need to explain a damn thing. Just leave me alone."
"I thought we had a spark and th—"
"Well you thought wrong," she interrupted him mid sentence.
"I can't believe you did that. You know that I've got a boyfriend." Acacia began to push the elevator button continuously in her attempt to leave as quickly as possible.
She felt violated. They had been friendly ever since she started to work at the lawyers office, but she'd never given him the impression that they were more than friends.
Carson words began to echo in her head; cautioning her that Bradley had a crush on her. Maybe she had been a little naive and hadn't seen the signs.
The elevator finally opened after what seemed like forever and Acacia rushed inside. She immediately began to press the button to the ground floor.
"Wait... Acacia don't leave. I shouldn't have kissed you," he called out while attempting to follow her inside the elevator.
"Bradley, please just go away. We don't have anything else to talk about. Stay the hell away from me moving forward."
"It wasn't supposed to be this way." He said sounding dejected and watched the elevator door close behind her.
Acacia rushed towards the exit as soon as she arrived at the ground level of the building. She walked out onto the street and the cold air hit her like a ton of bricks.
That's when it finally dawned on her that she forgot to put on her coat because she'd been in such a hurry to leave the party. Acacia contemplated on going back inside, but decided that she'd much rather face the harsh temperatures than run into Bradley.
She wrapped her arms around herself trying to keep warm as best as she could. Unfortunately she wasn't dressed for the weather, but luckily there was a coffee shop nearby so she picked up her pace and speed walked to the cafe.
