They had made it to a restaurant, not just any restaurant it was kind of fancy so she was glad she chose to wear a dress. The exterior and interior were decorated nicely. The food looked expensive and smelled good so she was already liking the place.

When they walked in Ashley had told her to just sit back and chill for now since her 'cousins' weren't there yet. Once the waitress brought them their drinks, Ashley turned her head to Melanii smirking at her, "Why are you smirking at me?" She smiled making a confused face.

   "Because I wanna know how was it with that boy you went with yesterday." Her mother didn't mind not knowing the boy cause she wanted her daughter to take her time to tell her until she was ready. She does it remembering she wasn't able to do so back when she was younger such as Melanii's age.

her mother wouldn't let her go out all the time, wouldn't let her hang out with boys or have boyfriends. She couldn't even have friends over.

She and her mother had a bad relationship as she grew up. But when she got pregnant that's when she became all soft on her— Ashley is way different from how her mother used to act when she was younger towards Melanii and she's glad cause she's able to have a good relationship with her daughter.

Melanii started giggling, after she calmed down she saw her mother still looking at her. "Ok. My bad, ion even know what's funny for real." Ashley just patiently waited for her to start, nodding her head.

"So it went good. He told me he wants to take me on a date next Thursday.. If that's ok with you.." She started to get anxious about what her mom was gonna say. Ashley isn't very strict, she could be with certain things but not too much.

"Mija if you wanna go that's fine. As long as you feel safe with him then I'm ok with you going." All the anxiety had gone away, she was thinking about letting her mother meet him that night but she wasn't sure if she was ready.

   "Do you wanna meet him? If you don't want to I get it's f- if you want me to then I will. You know I don't mind." Her mother cut her off knowing she was going to ramble for about a minute straight.. Maybe even more. She took a deep breath and then let it out, smiling.

   "Ok, I'll let him know cause he's been wanting to meet you since the first day I saw him." They both laughed at her statement. Before Ashley was asked another question two tall-skinned men walked up to the table with mugs on their faces— just their natural faces. Melanii wanted to laugh cause why they looked so mean.

Ashley turned around feeling more than one presence next to her, she looked up and saw them standing right next to her. She squealed a little too loud catching everyone's attention. "Oh, Dios mío, se han vuelto tan grandes. miren a todos ustedes ou todos estos tatuajes. ha sido tan largo."

(oh my gosh y'all got so big. look at y'all. ou all these tattoos. it's been so long.) She rambled standing up and pulling them both into a hug as smiles showed up on their faces, hugging her back.

Melanii quietly laughed as they pulled back, sitting across from her. Ashley soon sat down clapping her hands at the fact that they were there. . Meeting her daughter, not for the first time of course. "Ma who are they?" Melanii whispered in her mother's ear but a little further away so she could just hear her.

She was confused about who they were and why she was meeting them although they do look familiar to her. "Oh sorry. Mija this is Keem and Quan, they're my best friend's sons from high school the one that passed away 2 years ago." She pointed at the two of them smiling, Melanii was still lost on why they were there and what it had to do with her.
