Y/N: See! I told you you'll pass this with ease!
Claire: I can't believe I did it!
She shouted excitedly while she pulled me into a hug.
A short time later she pulled away with a shy face.
Claire: Sorry, I'm just-
Y/N: There is absolutely no need to apologise Claire, you did great and I'm very happy for you.
Claire: Thanks for, y'know being there for me when my brother couldn't.
Y/N: I'm glad I could help. And besides seeing you absolutely crushing it was oddly satisfying.
She smiled.
Claire: Thanks. Happy you liked my performance.
Y/N: Are you up for a little celebration?
Claire: What sort of celebration?
Y/N: You wanna have a dinner with me this evening?
Claire: I- uh, sure. I'd love to.
Y/N: There's a fine restaurant not too far from here. You should try it out, it's good.
Claire: Sure, let's meet by the entry this evening then?
Y/N: Yeah, you wanna go on foot or by car?
Claire: That depends on how far away that restaurant is.
Y/N: About five minutes on foot.
Claire: That's nothing, let's walk.
Y/N: Alright, I thought you had enough exercise for today but seems like you're a true athlete.
Claire: You can't keep underestimating me like that.
She said with a fake disappointed look.
I raised my hands in the air.
Y/N: Sorry ma'am, I'll never do that again.
She just laughed and walked off.
Claire: You better not. See you soon.
Y/N: See ya.
I went back to the main building and went through the hallway.
The Boss was talking to a woman with a skull painted on her face? What kind of freak walks around with that shit?
I tried to go past them but my Boss stopped me.
Boss: Hey Y/N, you have a minute?
I looked at my watch.
Y/N: Two actually.
Boss: Funny as always. Well, this clown is Y/N, he's the leader of the combat unit. Y/N, this is Caveira, the interrogation specialist.
Y/N: Nice Halloween costume.
I complemented as I reached my hand out for a handshake.
She just stared daggers through me, without responding at all.
What a surprise the freak is being a freak.
Boss: I don't think she likes you.
Y/N: The feeling is mutual.
Boss: But you'll still have to deal with her.
Y/N: Excuse me?
Boss: She'll be joining the combat unit soon.
Y/N: We're having more than enough members already. I was hoping we'd take a break from recruits after we take in Claire.
Boss: Claire's abilities are questionable, but Caveira is a pro.
Y/N: Claire just passed her second exam.
Boss: And? Most of the people fail at the third anyways.
Y/N: I doubt she will.
Boss: You're not gonna make it easy for her, are you?
Y/N: No, I treat everyone the same.
Boss: But you do get quite defensive when it's about Claire.
Y/N: I'm not.
Boss: You know, I think she should fight Caveira instead of you.
Y/N: What?
The woman smiled.
Boss: I think it would be more fair. Y'know, a woman fighting against another woman, instead of a man.
Y/N: Oh that's a problem now? You never said it bothered you before.
Boss: It does now. My decision is final, Claire will fight Caveira.
Y/N: We don't even know how good of a fighter she is. She looks like she's a psycho on the loose.
Boss: Are you scared that she'll hurt Claire?
Y/N: Scared that she'll eat our members alive while they're asleep.
Boss: Don't you worry about that.
Y/N: Isn't she a part of the rainbow team or something? I thought you called her over for an interrogation, not to make her join us.
Boss: She said she liked it here, so we're taking her into our team.
Y/N: Said? She can talk?
Caveira: Obviously, dumbass.
Y/N: Woah, that's quite a surprise.
Caveira: Keep that up and I'll give you a second black eye.
Y/N: Tough lady over here. Well, wannabe tough lady at least.
She pushed me away, making the Boss step inbetween us.
Boss: Alright, that's enough. Y/N, why don't you get back to your office and work?
Y/N: You called me over here, it's not like I was bothering you.
Boss: Yes I did, and now I'm telling you to leave.
Y/N: Fine, whatever.
I went back to my office and locked the door.
I turned on my computer and saw that I got a message from an unknown user.
This means it's either a spambot or something important...or someone trying to troll me, like Leon did sometimes.
I opened the message and began to read it.
"You like your new blade, Y/N? You look good wielding it-
The only person that saw me wielding it was Chris...or at least as far as I know.
"This annoying Chris guy told you that your guards have been killed and I have to tell you that it's the truth. I killed them indeed, sorry for lying to you yesterday. I just didn't want to leave a bad first impression, but they started it. They just didn't want to let me through."
So it's Mistral then.
"But let's get to the real subject. I hope you're a fast learner because you will be using that new blade of yours very, very soon. You have a few hours left to train, but that's it. So I hope you'll take this chance and not waste it with a dinner in a fancy restaurant with that Claire girl."
She knows way too much, it's actually getting a bit creepy.
"The Senator apologises for not messaging you himself but he just has a lot of things going on right now. You will be seeing him tonight though, so you better be ready to greet him properly, Jetstream."
"See you soon." -Mistral.
Jetstream? Is that some kind of codename the Senator gave me?
I don't like where this is going.
