I sat on the couch watching TV. I had a long day at the office. I was a psychologist at a new building. I dealt with mostly depression and anxiety disorders.

First, this woman decides to skip her appointment only to show up when we are about the close. Secondly, she demands that I fix everything about her. ( She didn't say that, but that's what I read in between the lines. ) Lastly, she decides to throw a paper weight at my face resulting in me having a black eye for a right eye. I had things thrown at me before but there was always someone else in the room besides the thrower and the "catcher".

I had ice held to my face and it was freezing. I wanted him to be here. His hands were always warm. Elliot always cared about me unlike my boss who does nothing but request that I wear miniskirts.

I just sighed and continued watching TV. I continued waiting and waiting and waiting.

About 15 minutes later I heard the door open. I turned around to see no one there.

I slowly got up and went to check the door to see if it were loose and I forgot to lock it.

I closed the door and pushed on it without using the handle to open it.

"Perfectly fine, what the hell?" I asked myself.

I turned around and walked back to the couch. Then someone grabbed me.

"Give me the money!" I heard a familiar voice say.

I turned around to see Elliot smiling.

I furrowed my brow, "You idiot! I was scared!"

"What happened?" he said while touching my face.

"This out of control lunatic," I said while removing the bag of ice from my face.

"Who is he? I'll-"

"It was a she and things are taken care of," I hugged him.

"I'll take your word for it," he sounded a little uncomfortable.

"So how was your day?" I asked while lowering myself to sit on the couch.

Elliot sat right next to me, "Oh you know, the usual, catching bad guys and stuff."

"Sounds tiring," I said.

"You have no idea," he sighed, "but I love my job."

"I don't know how," I grinned.

"I don't know how you do it, dealing with crazies and getting hit in the eye with what?" he asked.

"A paperweight," I answered.

"Ouch," he rubbed my arm.

"I love it. I help people, I let them vent out what they need to. They'll eventually get better, but they know that they won't do it alone. We humans are so terrified of doing things alone because we need someone to guide us. Most of us are completely dependent on social interaction and-"

Elliot's head was on my shoulder. His eyes were closed. He looked so peaceful.

"And you said you don't need help getting to sleep," I giggled, "Whatever."

He then opened his eyes, "Just joking. I have heard people talking about their theories and opinions all day. Right now, I just want to talk about doing stuff."

"I get it, so you want to go first or should I?" I asked.

"Ladies first, so was your boss there when she hit you?" he questioned.

Elliot didn't know how uncomfortable my boss made me feel. He was constantly harassing me, but Elliot couldn't know the truth. I could get fired! My boss was a very powerful man. I am not going to get myself involved unless he hurts someone else. As far as I knew, I was the only one who he kept his perverted eye on.

"Yeah, he helped get me some ice," I lied.

"No he didn't," Elliot frowned.

I closed my eyes, "Yes he did!"

"Ella! Look at me! I know you're lying," he forced my eyes opened and stared into them.

"What did he do to you?" Elliot asked.

"What do you mean?" I tried to have an innocent expression.

"One of your coworkers, Linda, was raped. She said that your boss did it. Did he doing anything to you?" his warm hands touched my face.

I was so embarrassed. I'm sure that I looked like a tomato.

"Look, I just-" I didn't even finish my sentence before I made a dash to the stairs.

Elliot was quicker though. He blocked me from going up the stairs.

"Ella!" he shouted, "Did he rape you?!"

"No! He did harass me. Nothing more, can I just go?" I could feel the tears in my eyes.

"I know this is difficult but-"

"No!" I interrupted him, "I made sure that he didn't do anything to anyone else. I failed Elliot, I failed! I was suppose to look out for my other female coworkers! I couldn't protect them! What did I do wrong?"

I felt wet, salty tears run down my cheeks. I hated for Elliot to see me like this. In all the time that we've been together, never has he seen me cry once. I felt like shit, and I am sure I looked like it too.

"Ella, this isn't your fault, you can't blame yourself. You are a smart girl. You're my smart girl. Don't cry, please," he comforted me.

He continued, "You know how to save everyone else. You put your life last and everyone else matters. You were willing to let your boss do those things to you so long as he did them to no one else. You can save everyone, but the only thing you have failed to save is yourself. Just this once, save yourself so that you can save others as well."

I looked up into his blue eyes.

I smiled, "I'm suppose to be smart. What happened?"

"You!" he laughed, "You let yourself get like this! C'mon, let me help you."

"Alright, just this once," I widened my smile.

"But before I do that, save my damn neck from the tie!"

I giggled, "Alright, my hero, alright."

"Your hero?" he smirked.

"Yes, I have a hero," I loosed the tie and pulled it off.

"Well can I get a hero's kiss?" he pulled me in closer.

I didn't even answer. I just wrapped my arms around his neck and stood on my tiptoes to kiss him.

Afterwards he said, "I could really get use to this hero thing."
