Chapter Twenty: The calm before
Hysteria - Def Leppard
December 23 1987

The bed creaked and the weight shifted causing the blonde to groan. Her blue eyes slowly opened and she was met with a fleshy pillow. Her eyes fully shot open as she realised she was lying beside someone and that her clothes were on the floor. The person moved, turning to face her, the man wasn't ugly but Cherry had no clue how this happened at all.

"You need to leave" she stated, it had become a habit that she would go out late and get drunk , bring home a guy and then kick him out.

"Nice meeting you," the guy said as he left her room. Cherry gave a half smile as she ran a hand through her hair.

The night before was a blur for her all she remembered was getting drunk to forget that the guy she truly loved was married. She felt awful as she clambered down the stairs. She could hear Nikki fumbling around in the room he had in her house. She watched as he flung the door open and pushed past her running to the front door. Something glittered in his hand as he locked and re-locked the door.

"Nikki what the fuck" Cherry said as she slowly walked down the steps.

"Charlie their coming," he called, looking up at her. His pupils were massive as he stared at the blonde with a panicked expression. He held a pistol up to the ceiling.

Cherry's eyes went wide as she ran towards Nikki pulling the gun out of his hands. Tears burned in her eyes as she stared at her brother. "Nobody's coming, Nikki," she reassured.

"But Charlie their coming for us" he said as he grasped the blonde's hand. Cherry shook her head as she tried to pull away. "We need to stop them" Nikki shouted, snatching the gun back from Cherry.

"Nikki please put the gun away" she pleaded watching as he flung it around before pointing it at his temple. Cherry gasped, taking a step back. "Nikki stop it"

"They wont stop Charlie" he said, beginning to cry.

Cherry wanted to take any pain that Nikki was going through and make herself go through it. She had never in the thirteen years that she had known Nikki, she had never seen him cry. The last time he almost cried was when Cherry was twelve and broke her foot. The blue eyed girl stared at Nikki as his face softened and lowered the gun.

"Cherry i'm.." he began. Cherry cut him off by throwing herself into his arms as she sobbed. Nikki's body stiffened as his sister sobbed.

"Don't ever fucking do that again" Cherry mumbled as she pulled away wiping her eyes on her sleeve. Nikki nodded as he walked back upstairs.

Cherry walked down the hall towards her office, it wasn't really an office but that's what she liked to call it. Papers were tossed all over the floor but what glittered in her eye was the silver platter that lay on the desk. The plater was empty causing the already stressed Cherry to toss it across the room letting out a scream of frustration.

"Fuck" she whispered as she sat at her desk. She glanced at the stack of unfinished lyrics. She grabbed the paper on top and read it over, Cherry sighed as she continued to write, tapping her foot to an imaginary beat.

After a good few hours and six broken pencils Cherry stared at the finished song. The top read Dr.Feelgood. The blonde through it could be the next album's concept. A knock on the office door made Cherry spin around in her chair looking at the door.

"I'm gonna go hangout with some friends," Nikki stated. The blonde nodded, getting up from her chair.

"Be careful ok" Cherry said as she walked past him. "Where are y'all going?"

"Some hotel downtown, some of the guys from Guns n Roses are picking me up," the bassist said. Cherry nodded as Nikki walked out the door.
