All I could hear was the sirens. Strange people were surrounding me. My vision wasn't clear. I felt as if I had just woken up. People were asking me things like, "Where does it burn?" and "Do you remember anything?". Now that I thought about it, it burned on my back, feet, and legs. I screamed for the pain. I didn't know why I burned or what had happened.

I was rushed to the emergency room in a cold ambulance on an uncomfortable stretcher. Throughout all of this, I couldn't find my parents. When I asked where they were, the paramedics looked sympathetic and a little confused. I was the one who should look confused. I didn't know why I burned, what had happened, or where my parents were.

When we got to the hospital, I was finally told what had happened. Some IDIOT poured kerosine on the carpets of our apartment building. Our family was the only one there. When the IDIOT thought time was just right, he or she threw a lit match in the building and ran. Obviously, the building caught on fire and I passed out from breathing in smoke.

My burns were treated by a nurse and I was told a surgery would be done the next morning. Before she left, I asked her where my mom and dad were. She looked at the floor, and quietly said," I'm sorry. You won't see them again. They're... Gone." That last word hit me like a grenade. She left. I cried. It was impossible for me to sleep that night.
