Spencer rarely drove, but when he did, he was always super careful. He would obey all road laws, even if he didn't need to - being an FBI Agent on cases. Most of the team teased him for this, explaining that he was like a grandma when driving. But he didn't care. The last thing he wanted was to get seriously injured or even die because of a car crash.
But, today was not like any other day. He wasn't driving to work, or driving to interview another witness. No. He was driving to the hospital, desperately hoping that Y/N was still alive. He was hoping that he'd either be told that she was still in surgery, or that she was okay and stabilised. He drove faster than he ever had. He had no care for any road rules that he might have been breaking. All he cared about was his injured girlfriend who was on her way to the hospital.
Morgan swore that Spencer drove after the ambulance like a dog chasing a ball. Every few minutes, he'd have to remind Spencer to calm down.
When Spencer and the rest of the team finally arrived at the hospital, everyone waited patiently for any updates on their friend, meanwhile Spencer - covered in Y/N's blood, walked up to the reception. Before he could say anything, a woman walked up to him.
"Are you Spencer Reid?" She asked. Confused, Spencer nodded.
"Hi. I'm Dr. Ramirez. There's a patient here, Alyssa Barton. She requested to see you." She smiled.
Spencer walked with the doctor, ignoring his friends who all wondered where he was going.
"Is Y/N Y/L/N okay?" Spencer asked, unsure. He knew it was probably too early to tell, but he was hopeful.
"She was admitted a few minutes ago and is currently in surgery. Are you immediate family?" She questioned him as they got closer to Alyssa's room.
"No. I'm her boyfriend. Both her parents aren't available." Spencer admitted. Not even Richard's behaviour could bring Y/N's parents out of hiding, wherever they were.
"Okay. Well, you may not be immediate family, but I'd be willing to let you know when Y/N's out of surgery." Dr. Ramirez smiled.
"Thank you so much. I'd really appreciate that." Spencer nodded. The doctor left Spencer to enter Alyssa's room alone.
"Hey. You're looking better." He smiled at the woman, who rolled her eyes.
"I was kidnapped and beaten. It'll be a long while before I'm better." She smiled.
"I'm happy to stay here and keep you company." Spencer nodded.
"What about Y/N? Please tell me my best friend is still alive." Alyssa's face dropped and became full of worry.
"She's okay. She's in surgery at the moment, but Dr. Ramirez said that she'd be happy to let me know when she's out." Spencer exhaled.
"How are you doing? I mean, you watched your girlfriend get stabbed and shot and you have her blood all over yourself." Alyssa sighed.
"I'm okay, I guess. All I care about is that Y/N's getting the help she needs." Spencer continued to put others needs above his own.
He'd happily work all night if it meant that his friends had less paperwork to deal with. He'd happily push his own limits if it meant that he'd successfully comfort his friends.
"Go, Spencer. Go be with your team. They need to know that Y/N's going to be okay. Don't worry about me." Alyssa reassured the man, who nodded, standing up. He gently hugged his friend before exiting her hospital room, heading back to the team.
"What's going on? Please tell me she's okay?!" Penelope begged, a tear falling from her eye.
"The doctor says that Y/N's in surgery right now, but I'll be the first to know about any developments." Spencer smiled. He was one bad thought away from breaking down in front of his team, but he desperately tried to keep himself calm.
"The authorities contacted Amelia Porter. They told her what happened to Richard." JJ put away her phone.
"Why was Amelia contacted? Wasn't there anyone else who was closer to Richard? I mean, he was her ex-husband after all." Hotch asked, confused.
"Richard sadly had no other relatives that he was close to. Both of his parents died when he was barely in his 20s, he had a brother and a sister - both of whom basically disowned him when he became an associate of Y/N's family, and his only child died at his hand." JJ explained.
"How'd she take the news?" Derek asked.
"Apparently she claimed that he got what he deserved and asked never to be contacted again." JJ shrugged her shoulders.
"You can all go home. I'm gonna stay here and wait for any updates on Y/N." Spencer insisted.
"I'll stay here with you." Penelope smiled.
"No, Penelope. That's not necessary." Spencer shook his head.
"Yes it is. You know why? Y/N's surgery is most likely going to take hours, so you're going to sleep. That means, I'll stay and be here to wake you up when the doctors have updates on Y/N." Penelope insisted.
