The next day at school was...different for you and Eddie. You felt you had a touchstone all of a sudden.
Between him and Stacy, you felt invincible. You had the beginnings of a tribe.
He came by your locker to walk with you to English. You chit chatted with him before class. You noticed a few people stole quick inquisitive glanced at the two of you together because you seemed so mismatched. Like those children's books of unlikely animal friends—a tiger who befriends a bunny. The studious with the super, super senior. The short and petite with the tall and intimidating. The light with the dark.
She did however notice one person who was more vocal about your pairing. And that was Jason.
You and Stacy had grabbed Steve and Robyn to move tables to sit with the Hellfire crew. Everyone had gotten along well at the movie night so everyone had started to come together more often. It was like you had become the bridge for the two groups. You and your...connection...to Eddie.
We were all sitting together when Jason and his jacketed lackeys walked past, Chrissy in tow as well.
I thought they broke up, you think to yourself.
"Looks like The Freak has found his next ritual sacrifice," Jason taunts, popping gum as he struts by, looking at you.
"I most certainly have, little lamb," shouts back, jumping on top of the cafeteria table and shooting devil horns at Jason.
"Freak," Jason mutters, quickly looking at you before turning around to leave.
Chrissy also makes eye contact with you apologetically, but follows in tow. There's something left unsaid in her eyes.
As Eddie finds his way down from the cafeteria table, you lean over across the table to Stacy, "Chrissy and Jason are back together?" Jason had told you that afternoon in the cafeteria that they were no long together.
"What are you talking about? They never broke up," she said shaking her head before popping another tater tot into her mouth.
You and Eddie exchange glances. You're both thinking about the same incident in the cafeteria days before, although Eddie didn't know Jason had explicitly told you that he and Chrissy were over.
"What's going on?" Stacy asks, looking between the two of you.
Eddie piped up first. "Jason made a pretty good show of slobbering on Y/N in here the other day."
"Jason said he was glad I was back in town because he and Chrissy weren't a thing anymore..." you add.
Eddie's head whips in your direction at that little addition. When you meet his gaze, you see the jealousy in his face, as his eyes flicker very briefly to your lips.
"As if his seat on the Asshole Throne wasn't the thing actually standing in the way of me falling for him," you finish, looking right into Eddie's eyes as you said it. He gives a little smirk.
It's Stacy and Steve's turn to exchange a glance of their own.
"What?" you ask, knowing very well what and why the exchange occurred.
"Oh nothing," she smiles devilishly. "Harrington just can't get enough of looking at me."
"Oh, come on," Steve retorts, throwing a fry in her direction.
