Vengeance

CHAPTER FIVE

That same day, Maureen was out having some air and reading too. She had her headphones on and seemed to be enjoying her time out there. A few seconds later, a car pulls up in front of her place, catching her attention. She wasn't expecting anyone, so she felt curious to know who it was. As she was still pondering on her next line of action, a tall red-headed lady stepped out of the car. With her ravishing use of cosmetics and sunglasses, one could tell how sexy she was.

"Do you need help?", Maureen called out from the verandah, as the lady started walking towards her.

"My name is Irene, and I'm lost", the ravishing lady with her shades off replied. "I'm kind of new here and my place was burgled yesterday".

"Burgled?", a surprised Maureen asked as she decided to meet her Irene halfway.

"They must have broken while I was away, that's the reason I'm in search of the police station here", Irene replied with panic and stress evident in her eyes.

Looking worried and sad, she explained not expecting any hostility of such from the peaceful community, as a concerned Maureen consoled her and advised her to always be security conscious all the time.

"Now, I've been searching around for the station all day, with my car running low on fuel", a worried Irene said.

Maureen further consoled her and talked about just moving into the area not too long, but even at that, she knew where the station was.

"It's a bit far away from here and might take you till the dead of the night before you get back to your place", Maureen added.

"Wish I knew what to do right now", a frustrated Irene stated while heaving a huge sigh.

Observing her and feeling concerned, Maureen offered to accommodate her for the night and also talked about giving her good details of how to easily locate the station. It seemed like a risk to her but she was willing to be of great help to a fellow newcomer like herself. Irene's face immediately lit up after being offered help. She thanked Maureen times over while also asking if she was actually sure about helping. Maureen affirmed while smiling and explained her belief in being offered the same gesture if it was the other way around. Both women excitedly introduced themselves as Irene gave her a warm embrace. She excitedly hurried to lock up her car and meet up with Maureen again as they both talked and laughed into the house.

That night, they had a long conversation about one another, with Irene expressing her sadness over the tales of Maureen's family.

"Got other family members?", she asked.

"I wouldn't be here right now if there was any", Maureen replied while holding her cup of coffee.

Irene further expressed her sadness and hoped the long vacation she was having alone was worth it. With Maureen stating that she had no option but to be strong, Irene still felt very concerned about her tales. After a while, She checked the time and told Maureen about being in bed already due to the odd period of the night. Maureen hopped up immediately and offered the bedroom to Irene for the night, while she took to the couch. Irene tagged the offer as an inconvenience and suggested the couch was okay for her till the next day. Maureen insisted on the other way round until an agreement was concluded by both women. Irene expressed her gratitude while further complimenting the level of hospitality she's obtained so far.

"I'll have the description ready for you by tomorrow", Maureen replied with a smile on her face as she directed Irene towards the bedroom.

Irene thanked her once again, as both women wished one another a good night's rest. In the course of clearing the table after some minutes on the couch, Maureen heard a sound outside. She wasn't bothered about it with the imagination of it being animal movements. After a while, she heard the sound again when washing the dishes. This time, she figured it could actually be something else and got bothered.
