As I drew open the patio door, I heard angry voices. I hesitated, this might not be the best time to go inside, so I decided to wait until things calmed down.
I was able to keep myself from eavesdropping for about.... 30 seconds.
Then I figured, I couldn't really hear what they were saying so I figured I should just slip inside but stay out of sight so that I would know when the coast was clear, otherwise I would be standing out here forever.
I edged the patio door open further, just wide enough for me to slip through. As I was passing through I stumbled and accidentally passed the small wall blocking the view of the patio from the kitchen and caught a glimpse of Ram at the dining table looking pretty annoyed with his parents both standing facing him.
I quickly regained my balance and pressed my back flat against the wall hoping Ram hadn't seen me.
My heart was pounding from the excitement of almost being caught, and I struggled to quieten my breath so I missed the some of the words said but what I did hear.... well.
"...... wasn't supposed to happen Ram."
"Yes, I know but it wasn't intentional."
"We warned you specifically that you were to avoid contact with her!"
What?
I felt my heart pick up pace and I stiffened against the wall. This was definitely so beyond what I classified as weird.
"Look I know, but I wasn't expecting her to be up so early."
Mrs. Vyas sighed, "Yes, I know we shouldn't get mad at you but I can't help but worry that something may go wrong."
"Son, why don't you go stay at the villa for a bit." Mr. Vyas decided to intervene, to cut off her tirade.
"I could but don't you think at this point she would think it's strange?"
"Maybe, but we can't risk it so soon. We've waited so long already, if this ends badly..."
"Don't worry mom, I'll keep contact to a minimum."
"Alright, otherwise I guess you could go stay at the villa for a little while."
"Mom relax."
I heard the chair scrape against the floor as someone stood up. I realized that getting caught eavesdropping was probably not the position I wanted to be in. I inched back through the porch door having just enough time to close it before Ram came around the bend.
He peered around the corner as if almost expecting someone to be there, then his gaze traveled to me through the barrier of glass and he looked almost confused to see the door shut, as if he had known I was listening.
I gave him my best innocent smile and he just glared suspiciously. I opened the door and stepped inside again as I moved to walk past him, he grabbed my arm turning me to face him.
"What?"
"What are you doing?"
"I'm getting my swim suit."
"No, what are you doing?"
I didn't know how to answer him, so I just rolled my eyes and ripped my hand from his grasp. I jogged upstairs and grabbed my swim suit from my suitcase.
There was no sign of Ram when I came back downstairs, but that was perfectly fine with me I could use some peace from that naggingly rich and stupidly deep voice of his that made all the crap he spewed sound good.
Running back to the beach, I saw Asha already started on a sand castle and as soon as I reached her, I plopped down and started crafting towers and walls and tunnels that were absolutely essential to any sand castle.
