The movie had been alright, minus the cliche plot and cheesy dance numbers it was pretty decent with even a few twists I hadn't anticipated. I was quietly happy having gotten to see someone get their happily ever after. But that was a pretty long movie, almost three hours looking at my cell phone. I had missed lunch and my stomach starting to realize it was empty grumbled.
I stood on the sidewalk looking for a place to eat. I didn't really want to cross the street since it seemed a little hazardous with all the autos, scooters, motorcycles, cars, cows, and people. I wasn't quite ready to brave all of that just yet.
I turned to my left and took a few steps before stopping because I didn't see anything good. I turned back and took a step before my gaze locked on someone.
Ram
I stared at him not moving. How is it he always seemed to appear when I have starting to enjoy myself?
He seemed to notice my gaze because he looked up and our eyes locked. For a couple moments we just considered each other. Everything around me seemed to fade out as my full concentration was focused on him. His eyes seemed to get bigger but out of the corner of my eyes I noticed that he looked good in the deep green polo and jeans he was wearing. There was a stray black of hair on his forehead that I had the sudden urge to brush off. I took a step towards him never breaking eye contact.
He seemed to want to do the same but there was this hand on his chest holding him back. I frowned that hand didn't belong there. I glanced down to give it consideration breaking the spell and he seemed to suddenly notice it as well.
My eyes followed the intruding hand to its owner. The girls back was towards me and she was looking up at Ram but he was looking at me over her shoulder. The hand lifted from his chest and went to his cheek and he finally looked at her.
I felt a twinge of annoyance. Who was this person? I took another step forward and now they were only ten feet away from me.
She must have said something because he smiled. Then he looked up giving me a glance. The girl then turned around as if looking for what could possibly be diverting his attention from her. It was then that I returned to my right mind. It was Aisha. I glanced back up at Ram's face and I knew from the look on his face that he was surprised to see that I recognized her.
Aisha was pouting looking around and peering to see who was taking up her boyfriends attention. Her gaze landed on me and I took a step back but she quickly moved on to the next person. Apparately, I wasn't competition. I don't think she found what she was looking for because she appeared a little annoyed. She turned back to Ram and must have asked him a question because he shook his head no.
Then he put a hand around her waist he pulled her close and bent down to whisper in her ear, but the whole time he was looking at me with this mocking smile on his face knowing I was watching.
Aisha laughed and hooked her arm through his and leaned her head against him and led them into the movie theater entrance. I was still watching when Ram turned and gave me a quick wink just before the doors closed after them.
I blinked once when someone else opened the door to the theatre. I blinked a second time when I started to hear the noise around me once more. The third time I blinked and was awakened from my daze because some old lady was shaking me.
She was holding a basket of white jasmine flowers strung into garlands that she would sell to women to put in their hair. I smiled at her then closed my eyes taking in a whiff of the flowers fragrance.
"Pappa neeku emmaina iyyenda?" (Literal Translation: Girl, did something happen to you? but I think she meant more along the lines of, are you ok?)
