Chapter 13
It was an almost comical moment. The kind of moment that you see in all the movies but are totally not expecting.
Aisha looked back and forth between us, “So I take it you two have met?”
I looked at Rohan with distaste, “We have met.”
Aisha looked at me expectantly then back at Rohan, “So are you going to tell me or not?”
“What?” he looked at her annoyed but I could tell that he was slightly embarrassed as well.
“How you two met of course!” She huffed, crossing her arms and pouting her lips.
He sighed and rubbed the back of his head, “I made the mistake of trying to make a move on her in the airport.”
Aisha’s eyes widened, “No way. Oh my gosh, I am so sorry.” She turned and started apologizing to me for him.
The look on Rohan’s face was priceless! He looked absolutely mortified, but that was probably nothing to the look I imagined was on my face. It seemed like everyone in that cafe was staring at us, but Aisha didn’t notice. I wasn’t sure if it was because she was so used to attention all the time or because this really didn’t concern her but one thing I knew for sure was that if she didn’t shut up soon I would strangle her. Plus I was confused as to why she was getting so worked up about it.
“Akka, shut up!” Rohan hissed.
Aisha stopped mid-sentence to turn and glare at him. I was surprised he wasn’t quaking with fear at the look she shot him.
“What did you just say to me?” She challenged him with a look in her eyes that just dared him to repeat it.
“People are staring.” He nodded towards the customers sitting in the cafe.
Her eyes narrowed and she discretely glanced back. Lowering her tone she replied, “Fine. I will let you off this time, but only if you come shopping with us.”
“Shit. Shopping with you? Hell no, you take forever. Plus, I’m working.” With that he turned around and continued doing whatever he was doing before we had come over.
“Oh really?” With a sly smile she pulled out her cell phone, “Then, I guess you don’t mind if I make a call right now.”
Rohan’s back visibly stiffened and he turned around slowly his eyes narrowed and accusing, “You wouldn’t.”
Aisha smirked, “Oh you know I would.”
As much as I enjoyed watching a guy getting put into place I needed to have something clarified before I got any more confused, “Are you guys...?”
They both looked at me as if realizing I was still there. Aisha was the one who finally answered my question.
“We are siblings. Rohan is my baby brother.”
“I am only one year younger.” he growled.
That definitely explained the sense of familiarity in their arguments. Rohan’s facial expressions were growing more and more desperate, a sure sign that he was close to caving.
“... look see I’m going to press send!”
“No! Don’t! Fine. Fine, I’ll come. I’ll come!”
“Good.” Aisha turned to me, “Shall we go?”
My stomach took that opportune moment to growl, I smiled abashed, “Maybe something to eat first?”
Rohan smiled, “No problem. It’s on me.” He went to the fridge and fridge and pulled out some batter. With the twist of a dial the stainless steel stove was turned up and a large frying pan was produced from somewhere underneath.
