Chapter 11
I lifted the bottle up and looked at it sorely tempted to take a sip. I was only being partially sarcastic when I said it was my favorite. Biting my lip, I tried to hold back the urge to take that fatal sip, man it was almost as if I was Persephone all over again with her stupid pomegranate. But when ours eyes met again, it was almost as if he was silently urging me, daring me, to take the sip and see what happens.
Admittedly, girls like me cannot say no to a challenge so... I drank it. Oh it was good stuff, that rich, dark, slightly strong flavor raced down my throat and I sighed. I had been trying not to drink soda for the past couple months as one of my little health kicks, but I guess one sip isn’t a total rule violation, right?
My eyes must have been closed because I was surprised when a warm hand enveloped my own around the bottle. My vision flickered for a moment as I tried to figure out what was going on. Indeed, there was a hand on mine that was much larger, the fingertips extending way past my own. Tracing the hand back to its owner, I saw Ram was slowly drawing his arm back and drawing the bottle and my arm closer to himself as well.
I figured he just wanted his drink back so I let go of the bottle, but his hand just tightened around the bottle not letting me go and he was still pulling. I looked him in the eye annoyed but he just tugged his arm a little harder and succeeding in making me stumble forward. I grabbed his shoulder to steady myself and when I was sure I wasn’t about to fall on my face, I realized he had reached out with his free hand to steady me as well. Unfortunately, that hand had ended up around my waist.
I looked from his hand on my waist, my hand on his shoulder, and our hands around the bottle and I had a realization in my moment of pure and total shock: we looked like we were dancing! In fact, it looked like we were doing some weird version of the tango where the guy is sitting down and the girl is awkwardly trying to remain in formation.
I was about to enlighten Ram on the interesting position we were in but when I opened my mouth to speak it suddenly hit me that our faces were only a couple inches apart. That made me let go of his shoulder immediately and I shot up straight, it was so quick that he didn’t even figure out he was supposed to let go of my waist.
Clearing my throat, I looked at him and then pointedly at the hand on my waist. The imbecile didn’t seem to get it at first, he looked at the hand on my waist almost confused as to the reason it was there. Then those blue eyes flicked up to me and it must have been the pissed off look on my face, but his signature smirk appeared on his face and I knew that he was up to no good.
His hand actually tightened around my waist. I looked up nervously around the dining room, because this was not a position that we should be in, but while I was distracted everyone had left the room. I could hear faint voices in the direction of the patio so they must have gone outside to enjoy some fresh air.
HIs sudden boldness made sense now but this was bad. At least when his parents were around, Ram had to put a reign on his actions but if they weren’t in sight who knows what he would do. I was so dead, he was probably going to choke me, or force feed me, or maybe even worse take a picture to blackmail me with! In hindsight, I probably should not have provoked him. I should have just let things go and ignored him, I mean revenge makes the whole world go blind right?
Wait! There was still hope of rescue, Aisha! I prayed that Aisha would come back from her, now that I think about it, insanely long trip to the restroom. My musings were once more interrupted by Ram as he stood up.
“Let go.” I hissed my anger instantly flaring up because I had to look up at him once more.
“No.” He pulled me even closer and I started getting nervous again so I looked down avoiding eye contact.
