I walk into the hospital with so many emotions from my dad's phone call earlier.

He requested we have a family meeting regarding Jerald's next procedure. He said we needed to decide if removing the bullet was worth the risk of my brother being paralyzed from the waist down.

I hug Mrs. Donna as my dad connects with my mom on a Zoom call.

And by the end of an hour long back and forth, I'm emotionally drained as I sit next to Jerald's bedside.

I take out my phone to use the only therapy my heart will allow, for right now.

I put my phone away after pressing send and look up just in time to see Mrs. Donna walk into the room.

"How are you feeling?" She asks and I shrug. "It's okay. We don't have to talk about it, if you're not ready."

"Thanks," I muster up enough strength to say as she sits next to me.

"How was the college visit?" She asks.

I smile, just thinking about it. That was truly the first time I've been able to be myself again. I got a chance to just feel and not think about the past while visiting Vallanova's campus.

"It was good."

"Wait—- what was that?" She follows my grin. "What did you and Kia get into on that campus?"

I finally let out a small laugh and take a deep breath before looking around the room to ensure my dad isn't listening.

"I don't know if it's right. But I don't think it's wrong either. I just really enjoyed my visit, is all." I explain.

"Tell me more," she insist.

"Well, first off, the campus is gorgeous. And she took me to meet some law students who spoke highly of the program."

"Okay, yeah! But get to the good part!"

I laugh loudly before covering my mouth. "Then, I met a guy who literally checked all of my boxes."
