The two talked about what happened. Nikki apologized and paid for both of their dinners. He then proceeded to buy her dessert and apologized a hundred times as she ate.
"I'm sorry, Erin."
"You've said that at least a hundred times, Nikki." She smiled softly.
"I know, but I don't think you understand how sorry I am." He sighed, finishing off the last of his cheesecake.
"I do, Nikki."
"Does that mean we can go back to being a somewhat couple?"
"I...Don't know." She admitted, looking at the boy with a sad expression.
His eyes seemed to sadden at her words. "Okay."
"I just need time."
"But how long, Erin?"
"I don't know..."
A silence fell between the two.
He sighed. "Let me know when you're ready."
"How long are you willing to wait?" She asked.
He smiled softly before looking at her. "As long as it takes, love."
Her heart flipped. Would he really wait for however long it would take? What if he found someone else by the time she was ready?
What if he gave up?
