SCP-049 POV:

"I never really liked school. I didn't like the people, and the people didn't like me. They said I was weird when they didn't think I was listening, and tried to frame me for trying to kill them. It was probably the mask that did it.

"I had managed to get the school to allow me to "wear" what I do. Sure they thought me mentally unwell, but that meant that they defended me so I didn't mind. I just tried to get through.

"But that's when the popular kid brought in a porcelain comedy mask covered in goo. He walked up to me.

"'Hey autistic kid!' He shouted out. I knew he was talking to me.

"I sighed. 'Yes, what is it.'

"'Look, we can match!' He exclaimed as he took the mask out of his backpack. He laughed and laughed with his friends, but I didn't. Not primarily because of the mockery, but I heard something.

"'Hey, can you hear me plague doctor?' I heard an unfamiliar source ask in my head. Before I could question, it spoke again. 'I'm the mask. Can you get this guy to put me on already? He's so loud he can't hear me in his own head. We can talk properly then.'

"I thought it very strange, but complied. 'If you intend to 'match', put it on,' I responded.

"He laughed and looked over at his friends. 'Sure, sure, I can play along.' He put the mask onto his face, and I noticed an immediate change in behavior that no one else seemed to pinpoint. 'Oh look at me, I match your medieval aesthetic!' It made me laugh how he tried to make it seem like nothing happened.

"'Of course. May I talk with you though?' I asked.

"'Oh, uh, sure. Let's go,' he responded, trying to stay in character. We walked into an empty classroom and I locked the door behind him.

"'So, care to explain yourself?' I turned to the former popular boy.

"'Right. Well, I am indeed the mask, and when this man put me onto his face I have maybe possibly caused him brain death and taken control of his body. This is a joke depending on your reaction.'

I felt a shock travel through my veins. It was relatively weak, so I continued on with no response.

"I took a moment to process. It was quite strange hearing such sophisticated speech from a man who usually pranced around saying 'bro' five times in every sentence; it was a welcome change nonetheless. 'Well, luckily for you, I am not reporting you to anyone of authority because I believe that you are similar to me.'

"He let out a deep sigh. 'Thank all above, I cannot go back to being secluded.' He paced back and forth as he continued. 'It's been too long ago that my host rotted away in a secluded theater and I left with my thoughts. I spent two whole days pondering the chicken and the egg debate! And I know it seems quite foolish, but years of solitude does things to the mind. You seem as if you are secluded even in this large building. Do you struggle with social relationships?'

"'I cannot tell if that is an insult or not.'

"'Am I wrong?'

"'... no, you are not. It is difficult to make connections when you look like me.'

"He pondered for a moment. 'Then take all of that off.'

"'It is part of me,' I responded. 'Quite literally. The mask and cloak are part of my anatomic makeup.'

"My familiar seemed ecstatic to hear this response. 'So you are anomalous! Oh what luck! I had a feeling when I first saw you. We are going to be allies whether you agree or not.'

I felt the shock once again, but didn't dare shout for its end. I tried to hurry.

"'Uhm, okay? It doesn't seem like I have a choice.'

"'You clearly don't. Now, we are getting out of here.'

"'Wait, out of school?' I responded. 'I am enrolled here, I cannot simply leave whenever I wish.'

"'You're not supposed to leave whenever you want. Of my knowledge, people often do not show up to class on purpose. Now let us depart from this decrepit building!'

"And from there, our friendship grew. He helped me advance my cure, I helped him keep a host. We provided decent company for each other. But then he didn't return to our place of residence one day. I went looking for him, checked every abode around. Then, when your crew invaded the abode I was searching, I just knew that you had taken my accomplice. That's why I provided little resistance during my capture, and I am trying to do the same for this current encounter so I ask you to put the taser away."

"This is to ensure you don't lie to us," one of the researchers assured me. "One cannot lie well when experiencing pain." He put the taser away. "So, do you have any idea where SCP-035 could have run off to?"

"For the last time, he did not tell me where he planned to go. He did not even stop by my cell. I have no idea where he is."

The researcher sighed, taking the taser back out of his coat pocket. "This is going to be a long night SCP-049."
