"Yas get the door." I mumbled as I seasoned the chicken, I was finna make butter chicken.
"Why should I get it."she groaned dragging her feet to the door.
"Because you live here for free."
She got the door and I continued doing what I had to do.
I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, I rolled my eyes and took off the disposable gloves.
"Wassup? I brought you this."he removed his arms and pulled out a brown envelope.
"What's this Ant?"
"Money, can we sit for a minute? we need to have an urgent conversation."he said frantically looking around.
I didn't say anything I just walked towards the living room and he followed me there.
"So what's this money for?"I asked "how much is it?"
"I'm going away to Mexico like I said I would...and I'm taking Amiri with me."
Nigga got to be joking, fuck he think this is.
"Oh and this has to be like what? Bribe money cause I'm broke? And you know it, and you think by giving me this money I'll let you take my son away from me? You must be out yo rabbit ass mind."I said throwing his money back at him.
"You haven't even heard why."
"Why? Huh why Antonio, there I'm asking now? Shii nigga you better start talking."
"I'm going away to Mexico on business, I won't be back in 3 years since my mama left everything to me so I gotta go down there and sort shit out, I'ma take Amiri with me there, he gon' stay with my grandma over there, but I can't leave him with you, he's not safe with you like that and I know you're his mother but you ain't mentally okay for now."
"Excuse me?"I narrowed my brows "I am a 100 percent good I don't need this shit, I can take care of him."
"Aura think about this as a break, a break from all this bullshit that has been going on,you can go on vacation, whatever you want and I got it covered and I'll make sure to face time you so he can see you everyday, just take a break."
"What am I supposed to do for 3 fucking years? That's wild."I shook my head looking at Amiri who had been sitting on his high chair.
"I just can't leave my son."he sighed "or you can come with me."
"Uh...no nigga I'm not leaving the country with you we ain't even on good terms, I know you gon' leave me stranded"
"You making shit hard for me, just take a break, I'll make sure you good regardless, I'ma still take care of you damn why you gotta be so difficult you'll see him again, I just ain't leaving him cause Ion want nothing happening when I'm gone."
"I need to think about it....but you need to go to court."
"The date is tomorrow and I'll beat the case don't worry too much about judges that can be bribed."
"Okay."I sighed "I hope for your sake and for the sake of my mental health... you're right."
"Aight can I take him out?"Antonio asked.
"Uh yeah, let me just get the toiletries and stuff."I went to his room, grabbed his bag and put the stuff that he needed inside.
I gave the bag to Antonio "bring him back before dark."
"I'm his daddy I can decide when to bring him back no?"he asked.
"Not a chance you wanna take him away, play by my rules."
"Give me a kiss."
"Boy bye, there's the door."I walked towards the door and opened it, Lex's mama stood there looking like she was about to knock.
"Aura, hi."she smiled.
"Why didn't you call?"I asked making her face drop to confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"When you visit someone's house you call before you show up you don't just show up."I mumbled.
"I mean cut me some slack, you're the only daughter I have left."
"You have your son too though."I shrugged leaning against the door.
I didn't want her coming inside.
I was afraid of what was about to go down, and it definitely would happen I was just...delaying it.
"I love you to- oh hell fucking no what is he doing here?"she pushed me out the way and rushed to Antonio, Antonio acted really fast and put Amiri down.
"You fucking bastard, how dare you show your face here."she punched on him acting a fool.
He didn't seem phased though he sighed "ma'am get your hands off me."
"Mama stop please."I pulled her away and she was livid.
"Aura how could you? He killed your sister."she yelled in my face.
"He's the father of my child mama and that's because Lex endangered my baby, you see that thing supporting his neck? Lex caused it okay?"I said but she was not having it.
"He killed your sister and he's not mourning about it, he'll get rid of you next"she semi yelled scaring Amiri and he began crying.
"You're scaring my son please leave."I walked towards Amiri and picked him up.
"Every night you lay with the devil and you don't feel guilty about It? He's a murderer and I refuse to lose another child, I promise you this is not over"she shook her head.
"Really?"I asked"really now? I lay with the Devil...how about you? Huh? What about what you and husband did to my parents...what you thought I didn't know?"
"I don't know what you talking about."she shook her head.
"Oh you know what the fuck I'm talking about, y'all killed my parents I know that shit but you don't see me calling y'all names now do I?"I asked.
She began crying "Aura I promise, I never did anything it was your dad, he killed them and he black mailed me into helping him cover it up I promise."
I shook my head "no no, I don't care, even if I he killed ant you should've fucking spoke up."
"I couldn't, that would've put you at risk, he said he would kill you as my punishment, I couldn't let you die."she cried "you were just a child, you were innocent, young and I wanted to protect you."
"But you stayed with him mama,you put up with the verbal abuse for years."I said breaking down seeing her so broken.
"I can't leave him, you might think I don't love you Aura but I fucking love you, I did everything to protect you and I would do it again...the only reason I was hard on you was because you automatically became the firstborn I had to teach you how to lead by example."she said walking towards me while I moved back.
For now, I didn't know what to believe.
"Antonio....fuck you okay? You gon' regret this shit when you rotting in a cell."she threw her stiletto at him.
This man is way too calm, one thing I noticed about Antonio is that he was very calculated and cautious he wasn't like me...I acted before I thought.
"Please just leave."I said with tears in my eyes, even though I can say I feel good that that bitch is gone I still felt bad deep down, she's never coming back and it's because of me.
"You have to believe me."
She turned around and walked out making sure to slam the door.
"That was pretty intense, you good?"Yas asked me.
"I'm fine."I lied while patting Amiri.
"Let me just.."Antonio gently took Amiri from me.
"We gon' head out."He said as I nodded walking them towards the door.
"Thank you."I smiled but it was fake and I know he could tell.
