At this point, I'm voting for Shadow's past to be the same because no one can change it or make it evil, like c'mon, he's the best handsome edgy bachelor hedgehog anti-hero SEGA character in the whole canon! And you're right, Amy won't act like a "damsel in distress" bc that's just f*cked up, imagine you have her fangirling you from this world:

So, seeing her as a fighter like in the IDW Comics will be great, as well as Metal Sonic: We all know that he is going to be the main villain, and from what I heard, he would team up with Shadow, Rogue (after meeting Knuckles in his solo show) and even Eggman. There is a battle happening in production, I may be a new fan of this franchise but, I don't have leaks or some excitement. I'm just an average young adult girl who just loves to see Shadow the Hedgehog, he's the reason that got my attention after watching the 2 Sonic movies. Anyways, Metal Sonic would be in it.
Jim Carrey aka Eggman, in my theory, would come back once more as the villain again, I mean, didn't you all see his assistant pretending to be a G.U.N. Soldier? He most definitely found his body and saved his injuries in their lab.
As for Tom and Maddie, I'm guessing that in the battle, Shadow would save Maddie in an alleyway and disappear before she could see him. As well as Tom, being hurt, Shadow (IDK why fanfics gave me this idea) could use Chaos heal to save his injuries that Sonic had accidentally created on Tom. As for Tails, I'm happy he will help make his machinery to use his tornado plane.
