Alex's P.o.V
"Well on a happier note do you wanna go work out in the backyard again?" Asked Jace.
He may be spoiled, but that doesn't mean he was lazy or full of himself. In fact he's the opposite of both those, he's point guard on the basketball team and by far the best shooter. Yet he's never bragged about anything or put anyone down, and never had he ever left a friend behind.
"Sure, just let me grab a water and we can head out," I said, while pulling out two waters from the freezer part of the mini fridge.
I turned around to hand Jace his water but he was already downstairs. "Figures," I mumbled to myself, "that dude can't stay still to save his life." As I was closing the door to the fridge I got an idea and went looking in Jace's closet for a flashlight. When I didn't find one I asked Mrs. Willows, "Hey Mrs. Willows do you know if you have any flashlights?"
She stopped to think for a moment then nodded, "If we do have any they'd be in the storage tubs, but why do you want them?"
I knew there was no point in lying she'd be able to tell so I decided I'd answer with the truth, well half truth. "The woods are getting darker with the season and I was hoping that after we went to work out in the backyard for a bit we could go out for a longer hike." I said hoping she bought it. I mean it was half of the truth, or half of a lie, however you looked at it.
"Alright dear, just watch for the deer, they're coming out early for some reason," she said returning to the dishes.
Noting that that was the end of our conversation I headed out the back door towards where we were making our mini entertainment center. To most people we looked crazy, expecting we'd be able to have fires in Fall and Winter but to our defense, we did live in Louisiana. I can't remember the last time I've actually seen snow, all I know is I didn't like it.
I wasn't surprised when I saw Jace already pouring in concrete into the last area that needed it. "You wanna sign it like you see on the side walks?" He asked.
"Yeah but grab a stick so we can write it neater," I answered. Grabbing my own and signing my name into the wet mixture. "Where are the stones we bought to go around the fire pit?" I asked.
"There over in the garage by the benches, we could probably add all that in today."
"Is the dirt and gardening crap in there to?" I asked, Jace and I both knew that his mom has wanted a flower garden in the back of the house but she couldn't because of all the tall grass and weeds that domesticated the field. So when she agreed that we could dig the ground up and place in some concrete and add stuff so we could play basketball and have fires we decided that we'd make her an area where she could garden. It was decent sized and went deep enough to fit Jace and all his six feet. She had no clue we were doing it yet and we were planning to reveal it today.
"Yeah I even got some of her favorite flowers the other day. The dirt's on the top shelf of the rack and the tools are in a bag below it," he answered.
I nodded and went to get the dirt and tools from the garage and hauled them towards the dirt, I continued to rip and pour the bags in until it was full. Once that was done Jace added the extra bag of stones we bought just for the garden around the outside.
Jace looked at me for confirmation that we were done and I nodded. "Hey Mom can you come out here for a moment?" He yelled through the yard.
"Yeah just let me grab some sandals," she answered.
"Okay man you go into the garage and grab the flowers so if she wants she can start right away," he said.
"On it," I replied jogging towards the garage again. I took my time gathering the flowers so Jace could be the one to explain the surprise, it was after all his idea. Once I had all the flowers in my hands I walked out and saw her hugging Jace.
"Hey Mom, we also got some of your favorite flowers. Alex has them right now if you want to start planting them?" He asked.
She nodded and I carried them over to the dirt, placing them gently on the ground. Then went back into the garage to grab the benches for the fire pit. "Jace a little help? I'm doing all the labor here man," I called out.
I heard his mom telling him he could go and he came in and grabbed the ring for the fire. "Yeah don't worry this bench isn't heavy or anything," I told him.
He laughed and put the ring on top of the bench and lifted the other side up and we managed to get it positioned how we wanted it. Jace placed the ring over the pit we dug out, "Are we pouring concrete and putting the rocks in there still?" He asked.
"Yeah, you do that before the mixture dries and I place stones in?" I asked.
"Works for me," he nodded.
Working in silence we managed to get the pit covered and the benches all settled. "Only three, you want to head out into the woods now?" I asked.
Jace looked at me then whispered, "Thought they weren't safe anymore."
I nodded, "But I think I've found a way around the danger, it didn't seem to like the light so if we carry flashlights around it should leave us alone."
"Okay then, lets go," he sighed, stood up from the bench and walked towards the woods.
**Up top is Jace, the hottie himself lol.**
