Lia's P.o.V
I grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator and put on my blue converse. "Wonder why Alex was in such a hurry to get out of here," I thought out loud to no one in particular. Summer had just begun and the heat was already pretty bad but there was a slight breeze every now and then. I wonder if the woods are any cooler. I thought. I had a sudden urge to go inside of them again but there was also a part of me who wanted to stay away from entering. Alex seemed pretty happy to get away from them. That isn't like him at all, normally he'd head out into them for hours and just walk aimlessly around.
Whatever, maybe he just saw a bear or something, I decided, and if that's the case then there's nothing to worry about. It's most likely gone now. I started walking towards the edge of the woods, When was the last time I've been in them? I couldn't remember. But I knew the answer was before Mom and Dad had been killed many long years ago. Sighing I opened the screen door and began walking towards them, did I really want to do this?
I knew deep down I did, I missed my old tree house that I used to sleep in and my friends and I played house before everything went sour. It was like a punch to the face losing both Mom and Dad. Alex and I were nearly separated until everyone saw how well I took care of us I promised my parents I would. I got a part time job working at the diner at the age of twelve and my parents life insurance helped until I could get a better job. Now nearly nineteen years old and Alex being seventeen we took pretty good care of ourselves, Alex didn't even need to get a job.
I finally just ran into the woods before I could think much of it, towards where I knew the tree house still was, well hopefully. A chill ran up my spine as the temperature dropped but I ran past it and the chill went away after a few more minutes. Odd, but maybe it was just a cloud passing the sun.
I pushed it aside and kept running towards the large overgrown oak tree, once reaching it I saw the once nicely kept tree house had branches overgrown through the stairs leading up and slightly blocking the door. Was it even safe anymore?
I climbed the stairs just as I felt the cold returning towards this area. What was making it so cold? I pried at the door until it opened and walked in. But what I saw inside I couldn't begin to comprehend, a girl with brown hair and a silky dress was asleep in the tree house on the cot that was probably infested with many bugs.
"Hello?" I stammered, "Are you alright?"
The girl woke up confused but realized I was there. She instantly backed into the back of the bed trying to keep her distance she looked to be the same age as Alex. I took a step towards her and she backed even more into the wall but winced when her arm touched it, "You're hurt!" I yelled startling her.
Realizing that her cut and Alex's were close to the same I looked at her, "What happened?"
She shook her head, at first I didn't think she'd answer but she sighed, "I don't really know, there was a boy. He was getting attacked by an invisible thing, and I tried making it stop."
So they were hurt the same way, I reached out to grab her hand, "Co-" I was cut off by a vision coursing through me. "Your an angel." I said knowing I was right. "How?" I questioned.
