As l watched Jade grow up, I saw obvious signs of magic at a very young age. Her powers aligned with her emotions. I could also see her behavior was a lot like Draco's. She was kind and loving but she was also really confident and ambitious. She believed in herself and she was bossy. It was like she wasn't my daughter at all. She didn't look like me, she didn't act like me, she didn't have the same abilities as me, nothing. It was all Draco. I guess Lucius prayed for that to happen.
Jade was always a sweet kid. She never got in more serious trouble. I couldn't wait for her to go to Hogwarts because I knew she was an extremely talented which and I knew she could do a lot with this mortal life of hers with proper education and determination. To be clear, I didn't push her to do anything. She can choose a muggle career if she wants to (though I think that Draco's parents would flip if she did) and I would totally support her.
Draco seemed to enjoy the fact that Jade was a Draco Malfoy junior. They played quidditch in the back yard every weekend, he thought her how to brew potions and curse someone. I do not really support the curses thing but they promised they'll behave with it. They always got along and Draco was her shoulder to cry on. Jade was much closer to Draco than she was with me. I didn't mind it, she still loved me and showed it to me every day. She was extremely interested in Divination so I thought her how to read cristal balls and how to read the stars and astrology. She was giving of a major spiritual aesthetic vibe. She was all in to crystals, spirits and that stuff. But she was also religious. I didn't think she'd be since neither of us were. That is, we weren't until she started insisting that we pray before we have a meal and do religious traditions. She was a sweet little angel.
So, as Jade's eleventh birthday was coming up (I couldn't believe it has already been that long! Am I that old now?!), we were expecting her letter to arrive. She was so excited. She always knew she was gonna go to Hogwarts but she was excited to see where she'll be sorted. Both of her parents are Slytherins but she didn't seem to want to be one herself. She wanted Hufflepuff. Draco wasn't happy about that (honestly, he's still a Malfoy, I didn't think it'd be much different that this) but I supported. I felt like she needed some Independence from the two of us so, wherever she got sorted, I would be happy.
On the day of her birthday, Jade got up screaming
"Is it here yet?!"
"No, honey, but it will be.", Draco said
"The day has twenty four hours and that's more than enough time for it to come.", I added
"I guess", she said, looking a little sad
Draco and I congratulated her and gave her gifts. We then watched some TV and played party games. As we were sitting down to eat breakfast, an owl flew through the open window in the living room.
"It's here.", Jade said, dead serious
It was indeed, her letter! It read:
"Dear miss Malfoy,
we are pleased to inform you that you have been excepted to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.
School begins on September first. The train for Hogwarts leaves on August thirty first from the platform 9¾. We expect your owl by July thirty first, with the letter of confirmation.
In the rest of this letter, we will provide the list of things you need to bring to Hogwarts with you.
Deputy headmistress, Pomona Sprout."
Jade smiled and started jumping through the house.
"Wait, Pomona Sprout? Professor Sprout is the deputy headmistress?", Draco said in shock
"Well, yeah, I guess. Professor McGonagall is the headmistress now.", I replied
"Who is Gryffindor house teacher?", Draco wondered
"Someone new, I guess.", I replied, not too interested
We sat down at the table discussing how things at Hogwarts are and talking about our school years at Hogwarts. Nostalgia hit me. I miss those times.
