Joelle groaned as she opened her eyes. Joelle had canceled last night with Mickey. She wasn't ready. Although she thought it was cool that Kate Winslet was playing her.
"Wake up, girl. You'll have class soon," Hallie said as she threw a towel on Joelle's head. Joelle groaned and hid her face in her pillow.
Her face shot up from her pillow as soon as she heard her phone ring. She quickly answered the phone, hoping it was Stu and Billy.
"Who is this?" asked Joelle as she sat upright on her bed. "Hello Joelle," said the same voice as a few months ago, the same voice Stu and Billy used when they called someone. "Yes?" asked Joelle as she raised an eyebrow. "What's your favorite scary movie?" asked the stranger. Joelle sighed and put a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Who is this?" asked Joelle. "You tell me," said the stranger. Joelle grabbed the device from her nightstand where she could see who was calling her. "Cory Gillis. 442-8730," Joelle read up with a smile. "Nice joke, Cory, but did you know that fake phone calls are punishable?''
"Oh shit," said Cory as he hung up. Joelle chuckled and put her phone back. "Is it time to change numbers again?" asked Hallie with a sigh. "Nah, I guess it will be less. It's opening weekend of the movie, we'll see how it goes," said Joelle as she grabbed her toothbrush.
Hallie turns on the TV. "Two teenagers were victims of a murder at a movie theater last night. The two teenagers Maureen Evans and Phil Stevens-," told the reporter, but Hallie switched channels. Joelle frowned as she spit out her toothpaste. Would Billy and Stu be back? No, they had already completed their plan in Woodsboro.
"I just want to be left alone and put this behind me," Cotton Weary said in an interview. "For someone who wants to be left alone, he does get on TV a lot," joked Hallie as Joelle walked out of the shower.
"Hurry up, Joel. You have class in a minute. And don't forget we have to go to the Delta's tonight. Don't wear anything that makes you feel weird, okay, Joel?" said Hallie. Joelle nodded.
"I think I'm gonna skip class, I need to talk to Randy," said Joelle as they walked through the hallways. "You and skipping a class. What did you do to Joelle?" asked Hallie in surprise. Joelle laughed and rolled her eyes. "I'll see you outside, okay?" asked Joelle. Hallie nodded and walked the other way.
As soon as Joelle walked out, she was swarmed by reporters. "Joelle, did you know the victims?" a reporter asked. "Do you feel responsible for the murders?" asked another reporter. "Do you think there will be more murders?"
Joelle walked past them without saying anything. "Do you think the previous killers are behind it?" a reporter asked. Joelle froze and turned around. She said nothing and walked on.
Joelle walked to Randy's class. They were talking about the murders and which movies were better. The bell rang. Randy looked wide-eyed at Joelle when he saw her worried face.
"So, you heard it?" asked Randy as he walked down the hallway with Joelle. "Yeah, it's happening again, I guess," said Joelle with a sigh as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Do you think they're behind it?" asked Randy. Joelle remained standing and glared at him. "No, why would they?" asked Joelle. "I mean. They might be done in Woodsboro, but maybe they're out for more," explained Randy.
Joelle didn't want to believe him, but still she hesitated. What if Randy was right? But surely her boys would never do that?
Joelle flinched as Derek came walking toward her out of nowhere. Joelle looked away awkwardly towards Randy. Derek had wanted something with Joelle for a long time, but Joelle remained loyal to Billy and Stu. And Derek wasn't her type.
"How are you? You weren't in class today. I tried to call you as soon as I heard," Derek said as he pushed Randy aside. "I skipped class. I'm tired of the stares and questions," answered Joelle as she shrugged. "I'm sorry, baby. Is there anything I can do?" asked Derek.
Randy and Joelle simultaneously frowned at the nickname baby. "First of all don't call me baby and second don't keep coming out of nowhere," said Joelle irritated as she walked away along with Randy.
