I pointed Promise towards the last jump, it was a 3'3 bright pink oxer with water underneath it. I knew I needed to keep a steady leg on my mare just in case she tried to back out. As we approached the jump i steadied Promise and myself then counted off the strides until 3. 2. 1. I lifted up into my two-point position and Promise soared over the jump with room to spare, I patted her as we walked out of the arena to wait for ribbons. The announcer announced over the loudspeaker "all riders in the 3'3" showjumping class please enter the ring at this time for ribbons". As I walked back into the large round sand arena, Promise tossed her head wanting to go faster, I gently patted my anxious mare and said "easy girl it's ribbon time" and as if she knew exactly what I said, she claimed down instantly. The announcer started calling out the placings "in third place is Anna Mackenson on Second Chances" I bit my lip nervously hoping we placed first. "In second place we have Carter Belmont on Fury". I held my breath as they announced the winner, "in first place is Katherine Lewis on Stolen Promise! Congratulations!" A girl in a blue jumper and white riding breeches handed me a royal blue ribbon that had Devon horse show first place winner printed on the front. I hugged Promise happily as all the competitors walked out of the arena. I hopped off Promise as my parents walked up to me, "Congratulations honey we knew you and promise could do it!" I smiled "it's all thanks to Promise, I don't know what I would do without her". As I was leading a sweaty Promise to the trailer I was approached by a official-looking lady. She smiled at me and said "Hello ms. Lewis I am Margaret Delpondt the assistant director of the Winchester International Riding School, we would like to offer you a scholarship starting next school year with you and your gorgeous mare Stolen Promise. I could barley contain my excitement as she handed me a letter and said "we hope to hear from you soon". I thanked her and walked Promise to the trailer. I thought to myself -is this really happening? Did I actually just get a scholarship into the most prestigious riding school in the world?-I looked at the letter, it had gold lining on the outside and was sealed with the Winchester logo. I thought -heck yeah I did-. When my parents came to take me home I screamed and told them what just happened. "Oh sweetie we are so happy for you" my dad told me. I felt light on the ride back home. I was going to attend the best riding school in the world!
