"Ready to come downstairs?" My boyfriend, Jake asks, standing in the doorway of my bedroom.

I nod with a smile as he comes over to me and takes my hand in his.

"This is a surprise, so you will need to cover your eyes," he says with a smirk as we approach the staircase.

"Walking downstairs, in heels, blind. How could this possibly go wrong?" I say laughing.

"Don't worry, I got you," he says, placing his hands around my waist, guiding me down.  I close my eyes and hold onto his arms as we make our way down.

At the bottom of the staircase, I'm met by a pathway of scattered rose petals leading to the patio door. The lights are all of and dimly lit candles are placed around the living room for light.

He guides me towards the patio door and begins to open it. Everything outside is pitch black, only a faint glimmer of the moonlight allows me to step forward.

My heart is racing from nerves. I'm not really one for surprises and Jake has never done anything like this before.

As I take another step down, still clutching onto Jake's hand, everything around me lights up and voices emerge screaming 'happy birthday.'

My heart almost stops beating as I look around at the backyard, fairy lights wrapped around every tree, creating the most incredible lighting.

As my eyes scan through the faces, tears begin to form in my eyes.  I see all of my closest friends; Alejandro and his girlfriend Lexa, Ansu, Pablo and Gavi are standing with them as well. A little to their left I see Ferran and Sira with Pedri.

Already overcome with emotions, seeing Pedri sent a wave of hurt through me.

We were in a relationship for nearly 2 years before things ended. He was my person, I really thought that I would end up with him. But due to his growing schedule and popularity, I stopped becoming a priority for him.

We tried to maintain our friendship, for everyone else's sake. It was always hard being in the same friend group as him, and having to see him all the time. But at the same time, I loved the fact that I got to keep seeing him. He never became a stranger.

We tried to keep the past in the past for everyone's sake, but I was never quite able to get over it. Sira introduced me to a friend of hers, hoping that finding someone else would help to get me back to being myself.

It did work for a while. After she introduced Jake and I, we really hit it off, and somehow everything felt alright again. We've been together for nearly a year now, but things didn't stay that way between us.

As our relationship progressed, Jake became more possessive, especially knowing that Pedri and I dated. His controlling nature made things difficult for us.

A part of me felt annoyed at his jealousy, but it was always followed by guilt, knowing he was right. Even on the days when things were perfect between us, I couldn't help but wish it was Pedri instead.

My eyes are torn away from Pedri's by a pair of hands blocking my eyes.
"Guess who," a voice says from behind me.

I feel a tear trickle down my face when I recognize who it is. I gently grab the hands in front of my face and pull them down. I turn around and see the smiling face of my older sister whom I haven't seen since Pedri and I were together.

She's been living in London for the last 5 years and only came to Barcelona once, 3 years ago.

"Steph," I manage to say, as more tears pour out.  She immediately pulls me into a hug and sounds of awe fill my ears.
