You furrowed your eyebrows when you stepped through the door of the small cottage you and Harry Hook shared.

The hallway was filled with black smoke and a sickening smell immediately clung to your hair and clothes.

"Harry?" You dropped the bags with groceries and rushed to the kitchen. "Is everything okay here?"

He smirked, even though there was something undefinable in the sink while the fire alarms were screaming. "Of course! I have everything under control." He swallowed.

"So..." You licked your lips. "The black smoke and awful smell were part of the plan?" You crossed your arms over your chest. "And that black thing in the sink is also exactly as it should be?" You smiled. "Were you testing the fire alarms?" You cocked your head. "They work, I guess."

"Look..." Harry walked towards you and he placed his strong hands on your shoulders. "I simply wanted to surprise you." He moved a little closer, his nose now only inches away from yours. "And since so many people are baking birthday cakes when their special someone celebrates their birthday, I assumed it couldn't be too hard."

A chuckle escaped your lips. "You tried to bake?"

"Evie got me this cookbook and assured me that nothing could go wrong as long as I would follow all the steps."

You nodded. "I think she might have overestimated your non existent cooking skills." You rolled your eyes. "Using a shady sort of fish restaurant as a constant hang out doesn't automatically make you a cook."

Harry pouted. "Are you now mad at me?"

You didn't think you could ever be truly mad at Harry Hook. He was simply too charming to be mad at. He was also too handsome to be mad at. And last but not least, he always meant it so well that you also didn't want to discourage him.

"Mad? Because your attempt to bake me a birthday cake went wrong? Why would I be mad about that?"

"There will be visitors in a few hours and..." Harry rarely seemed uncomfortable, but now he stared at his own boots. "We can't welcome them in this smell."

You wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed a soft kiss on the tip of his nose. "The weather is nice enough and we still have a few hours left before everyone arrives."

His arms slipped around your waist and his knuckles touched the delicate skin of your cheek. "What do you need me to do, princess?"

You needed a minute to answer. No matter how long you and Harry were already together, talking when he was this close never became easier. "If we take all the furniture outside, including the decorations, we can just throw the party outside. And if we place a sign at the front door that they should walk around the house no one will know you almost burned our house down today."

"How do you do that?" Harry tucked a strand of loose hair behind your ear.

"Do what?" Your cheeks heated up when you felt his breath warming your lips.

"Make me fall in love with you more when I think I can't fall any harder?" He kissed you and his arms pulled you as close to him as humanly possible.

"A girl has the right to have secrets, right?" You stuttered when you managed to free yourself from his strong embrace. "And now quit the charming. We have a garden party to prepare."

"Aye, Aye, princess!"
