{~Evelyn~}
The hallways were swarmed with students, crowds started forming around lockers in clumps. Josie and I walked side by side. People exchanged curious looks and expressions as we passed by. I huddled closer to Josie as if that would shield me from everyone.
"There they are!" Josie pointed a finger at a group of three girls. "Don't worry, they'll love you, I promise." She walked even faster towards them.
"Are you sure?" I had to jog to catch up to her. "Normally not a lot of-"
"I'm very sure." Josie plopped onto the chair and pulled out one for me. The table was a table for eight. Strange. I stood there awkwardly beside Josie as she introduced me. "Guys," She got their attention and their gazes locked on me. "This is Evelyn, but she also goes by Eve.
"That's Alaina—don't mind her." Dark black hair, a brown-eyed girl, covered her mouth while chewing and waved nonchalantly with her free hand. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she was too busy eating.
"And Valerie, we call her Val all the time, though." I smiled and Val nodded her chin at me while taking a swig of water. Her vibrant green eyes stood out along with her auburn hair.
Alaina spoke up, after finally swallowing her food with somewhat struggle. "Hey, nice to meet you. I haven't seen you around before."
I contemplated what I was going to say next. "I actually just moved here. So this place is pretty new to me." I waved around the cafeteria.
Val kicked out a chair further for me. "You should sit down. I don't think Ezra's here today, so you should be fine."
Who's Ezra? I asked myself, but I took a seat on the plastic chair anyway. "Thanks." I say under my breath, scooting a bit to the right towards Josie.
"He's not." Alaina confirmed and she added for my benefit. "An annoying ass." The last past was a mutter to herself. "You'll be okay," She reassured me with a wave of a hand. "Just watch out for Wyatt, annoying ass number two."
Who's Wyatt? I'm getting lost here. Just a bit.
Josie interjected into our conversation. "You guys aren't helping. It's like you expect her to know everyone." I am thankful for her reasoning right now.
Alaina slapped a hand over her mouth, like a moment of realisation. "Oh... I forgot you're new for a second. Eve, right?" I nodded. "Eve, we'll get to know you in no time." She reassured me.
I let out a nervous laugh, easing the tension from my shoulders. "I'm sure you will. I don't have class, so I'm pretty much free today." I said, hoping it'll lead to a conversation.
Val perked up, like she had an idea. "We should all meet up and go somewhere." She suggested, pulling out her phone. "Can I have your number?—Or any social thing, really." She whispered to me and I grinned, adding my number to her phone.
Josie nodded, "That's a good idea. Where should we go?" She asked.
I gave Val's phone back. "I saw a bubble tea place on my way here. I forgot what it was called though." I cursed my bad memory.
"Presotea?" Alaina implied. "There's one a few blocks away."
That seemed right enough. "I think so? Not really sure."
"Then let's go—" Val started, but then stopped. "There they are. Took long enough." She suppressed a smile at someone behind me.
I quickly cast a glance over my shoulder and the air gets knocked out of my lungs.
Three guys who had to be at least more than six feet were walking towards us with backpacks slung on each of their shoulders.
First one was Blondie. Golden hair swept to one side, vibrant blue eyes. His body was lean along with muscular arms. His skin shone, like they've been out in the sun for too long. Sunglasses sat on the lowest part of the bridge of his nose, exposing some of the colour in his eyes, even though we were indoors. If I were confident enough to say it, I would shame him for it. Blondie caught my gaze and a friendly smile formed on his lips.
The other one was Hat Boy. Wonder why I call him that? A baseball hat covered his dark hair. And we were indoors. How many times do I have to repeat that? Smooth bronze skin, hazel eyes, hard smile lines. He gave off an athletic demeanour, not because he had knee pads on for volleyball, okay, maybe it was that that gave it away. I'm sure any girl could fall for him, clearly he looked perfectly content by himself.
Oh, the third guy? He stood out to me from all the others. I'll call him... No-Name, for now. He looked like he came out of a fantasy world. Chiseled face, long brown eyelashes, messy and fluffy light brown hair. He's the only one out of the three that weren't wearing anything unnecessary. Hooded eyelids that shaded his radiant green eyes. A hoodie and basketball shorts were his choice of clothing. Typical.
And they all have prominent cheekbones. Also typical.
How in the world do guys have such good eyebrows?
Wait... I thought to myself. His eyes. His eyes. Ah... well, shit.
"And you are?" Blondie sat on the free seat beside me, Hat Boy and No-Name sat on his left.
"Uh, Evelyn. But I'm fine with Eve." I replied.
Valerie scowled at Blondie and her eyes softened as she glanced at me. "She's a new student. Be nice."
"Actually," I interrupted before Blondie could say his comeback. "I'd rather be talked to normally than cooed like a little child."
Hat Boy shrugged and nodded in a way that could be read as an agreement. "Well, to help you, I'm Forrest Okoro. That's Wyatt," He clapped a hand on Blondie's shoulder. "This is Grayson." He jabbed an elbow into No-Name's rib cage.
Grayson grunted in response and smacked the back of Forrest's head. He placed his backpack on the floor. "Where are you from, then?" He asked me, his voice was deep and husky, curiosity lacing his voice.
"Um... California, actually." I itched the back of my thigh as an instinct. I shifted uncomfortably under his heavy gaze. I was the first the break eye contact and I looked at all the new people around me.
"I wanna go there someday. To see the scenery." Forrest added and silence fell upon the table.
"So!" Josie clapped her hands together, scaring the shit out of everyone. "Lee, don't you like living by yourself?" Ah. So that's what she was going to say.
Grayson shrugged, oblivious. "I guess. There's nothing wrong with it." He reached over to take a piece of Wyatt's sandwich and he let him.
"Good, cause Eve's going to be living with you from now on."
Boom. Bomb drop.
Wyatt's ham sandwich fell onto the table. May I say that he totally wasted the food?
Oh, also Grayson's eyes met mine in an instant, the piece of bread halfway to his mouth.
