{~Evelyn~}

No.

I'm not going out like this.

If I die I hope Arsinoe gets sued.

It's probably been seconds but being a helpless body underwater seemed to be an eternity.

I always knew you were a bitchy slut.

I saw an eruption of bubbles beside me just as my eyes were fluttering closed. An arm grasped my body and headed straight for the surface. My chest met the wet cotton of a shirt and the  small need to give up hit me.

I'm making life a lot more complicated to people. I'm acting like I want attention. I should stop doing things that upset Arsinoe. Maybe that will make her like me. Make other people like me so I'm not an outcast.

"Move. Everyone, move." His voice was calm, but seemingly demanding.

I got gently placed onto the cold moist concrete. I slapped a hand onto it to make sure it was real.

Ground.

I liked the ground.

I also liked oxygen.

I didn't get that  immediately.

A hand rolled me onto my back and it occurred to me that the party was completely silent. No music, no yelling, just whispers.

"I call not  giving her mouth to mouth." Sabrina joked and all her friends laughed. I could hear all the other chuckles following, but they sounded insincere. "Right, Gray?"

"Eve." He pressed his ear closer to my mouth and nose to check if I was breathing. "Fuck. Evelyn. This isn't funny." He moved to press two fingers on my pulse. I could feel that it's weak, but it didn't stop it from fluttering under his touch.

I'm okay. I'm okay. I can't breathe, but I'm okay.

A warm hand pressed onto a spot between my rib cage and I coughed water out like a fountain. I sputtered, trying not to gag and throw up all over the place.

I got the chance to crack open my eye a fraction to see Grayson dripping wet from head to toe hovering over me. His breathing was shallow and his eyes accessed me with concern.

"Eve, are you okay?" He whispered and the talking grew louder around him. His hand still rested on my stomach and I didn't even bother to complain. "I thought you were joking."  He sat back and took a deep breath, now breathing heavy.

Everyone started to disperse as if I wasn't worth their time. The music slowly ensued and increasingly became the volume it was before.

I grasped his hand before he could pull away. I felt a heavy feeling in my heart. My emotions are swirling around me I don't even know what to feel right now.

Betrayal. Gratitude. Shock. Embarrassment. Shame.

"Thank you." I paused, still trying to catch my breath. "I know I said I thought I would never say that again, but thank you. I'm not trying to joke this time." I admitted.

He squeezed my hand once before pulling away. "Anytime." He seemed to be whispering to himself. His attention snapped to my chest for a fraction of a second before flicking back to my face. "You're-"

"I'm fine." I attempted to get up but Grayson stopped me with a nudge.

"Don't. Give yourself some time or else you're going to throw up." He said, changing what he was going to say before.

I tried again and he warned me with a stern glare.

I crossed my arms. "Okay, Mr. Knock-Off-Lifeguard."
