"You'll be pulling names at random from this bucket," All Might said, jiggling a red sand bucket in his hand. "Everyone, write your name on a slip of paper, fold it, and drop it in!" Everyone did as they were told, lining up in an orderly fashion. All Might gave the bucket a shake and held it out. "I'll be numbering everyone one to four. It only matters if I give you the number one. If you're given that, you'll be the one picking three other names at random. By the end of this, we should have five teams." 

You straightened your back, leaning forward to look at the rest of the line, trying to find who would be given what number. As All Might began counting down the line, you fell back into it. 

"I hope we get to be together," you heard Kirishima whisper to Kaminari. 

Ashido gave you a nudge in the line next to you. "Hey there, number four." 

You chuckled. "You counted the numbers?" 

"Yeah. You're four, I'm one." 

You snickered. "Just letting you know, I wrote my name on the most uneven piece of paper ever. So try and find me when you're picking names." 

Ashido laughed. "I don't think we're allowed to look, but I'll try and feel around for it." 

All Might's voice came into earshot. "...three, four, one, two, three..." His finger landed on the top of your head, numbering you as four, just as Ashido had said. 

He reached the end of the line and directed everyone to pick their three names. 

Ashido, Kaminari, Todoroki, Jirou and stood at the front of the class, reaching into the bucket. 

"Please announce your teammates!" All Might waved a hand towards them. 

Ashido didn't hide her scowl when she unfolded the first name just to read Mineta scribbled there, nor did she hide the instant relief she felt when she read off the next few names, knowing she was at least with some people she liked. "Mineta, Sato, Uraraka, and Kirishima!" Ashido was someone you always liked. She was kind, welcoming, and was your first friend when you transferred into U.A. There was an air around her that people felt drawn to. You liked that about her. 

Kaminari opened his own and read aloud. "Yaoyorozu, Hagakure, Sero, and Tokoyami." He wiggled his eyebrows at Yaoyorozu, who bashfully covered her burning cheeks. You rolled your eyes. 

Todoroki read off the names Koda, Ojiro, Aoyama and Asui. Or Tsu, as she had told you to call her. 

Jirou revealed the last few names. "Midoriya, Y/n, Bakugou, and Shoji." 

"Excuse me? I don't believe my name was called, sensei." Iida's hand shot up. 

Your lip curled in a groan. This guy. 

"My apologies, young Iida. Since Y/n's transfer, I often forget we're at an uneven number. You'll join Jirou's team. Now, does everyone remember their number?" The class nodded at their teacher. "Good. Number fours, you'll be the leaders of your groups. Those of you labelled number two will be deemed the powerhouse of your group―" 

"I want to be a mitochondria..." Kaminari butt in, mocking a sad tone. 

All Might paused. "Uh, yes. If that's how you'd like to see it. The powerhouses will be the main force of attack. Those of you that are number three will be designated as the co-leader. Should your leader be compensated, you will be second in command. And number ones, you will be the designated shield for the group." 

Jirou tilted her head. "But, All Might, a lot of us up here don't have quirks that are good in defense." 

"Exactly," All Might grinned. "This exercise is meant to help you grow as people, and learn to cooperate in difficult situations. There are going to be times where you're put in an instance that doesn't fall in your favor. You're going to have to branch off from your comfort zones, and this is just the beginning."
