His heart was going to explode. Louis was sure of it. His heart was going to fucking explode. Harry was dying right there in his arms and he couldn't do anything about it. He was squeezing his torso, but it wasn't working. Harry was going limp in his arms and Louis felt like collapsing to the ground, like someone had ripped inside his chest and yanked out his heart. He wanted to fucking scream.

All of the memories he'd shared with Harry - their first date, the first time they kissed, the day they were married - they all ran through his head and all he could do was cry as he pleaded silently for more time. He couldn't let him go - not yet. There was so much they hadn't done; so much they hadn't said to each other. They couldn't be done just like that. There had to be more.

"Goddamn it, breathe, Harry!"

It was over. He could feel that it was all coming to end, their life together sucked into a black hole of nothingness. Harry was gone.

But, then, Niall was there. He pushed Louis out of the way, sending the man stumbling, as he took his spot behind Harry. He placed his hands carefully and began to pump at Harry's torso. Louis felt like he couldn't breathe - like time had completely stopped.

Then Harry began to breathe again.

He spit out the food and inhaled a rough gasp, coughing wetly as Niall continued to hold him up, his legs hanging limply below him.

Louis rushed over, taking Harry's face in his hands. He held his cheeks and looked him desperately in the eyes, still choking on sobs.

"Are you alright?" He ran his fingers along Harry's skin, finding comfort in the fact that it was immensely warm - no deathly chill about it. The younger man, after several excruciating moments, nodded and fell into Louis' arms. Niall let go and stepped back with Calum and Zayn, the three of them turning away to give Harry and Louis their privacy as Louis let them sink to the floor, cradling Harry in his arms.

"I thought you were dead," he whispered, knuckles going white from how tightly he was holding his husband.

Harry's breath shuddered. "Me too." He looked up at Louis, green eyes glassy with tears. "I'm okay, though. I promise, I'm fine."

Louis cradled Harry's face in his hands, examining him closely. "Are you sure?"

Harry nodded, taking several deep inhales. He managed a smile at Louis, even if it was a bit shaky. "I'm sure."

Louis returned the smile, trying to catch his breath himself. His heart was still pounding and he felt like passing out, but Harry was there. Harry was alive and breathing and that was all that mattered.

"You want some water?" Louis croaked after several moments of them sitting in silence. Harry nodded, so Louis stood and waved Niall over to take his place in watching after Harry. As soon as Niall was situated next to Harry, Louis stood up and pushed past Zayn and Calum to leave the room. Everything seemed to blur together, his lungs rejecting every breath he tried to take. He walked briskly, hurrying to the kitchen so no one could see him panic. He made sure no one was in there before he went up to the sink and leant over it, flipping on the faucet and splashing some water on his face. It snapped him out of his trance just a bit, but he still couldn't breathe properly. He was just so scared. Harry had been moments away from dying and Louis would've lost him. He would've been gone forever.
